en But we thought we needed to change there. We felt these were areas where we were not good at and needed to improve. We struggled in some decisions at the third-base coaching spot and in base-running (Lopes' responsibility).

en For the mile (1,600) I felt pretty good running the race like that. I was even more nervous for the 800, but I knew if I felt bad after running that mile time then I'd be concerned, but I was more awake and warmed up, so it was good.

en I mean, I just felt like I could make a good pitch and get him out. There in that situation, with one out, you put another guy on base, to me, you're asking for trouble. The guy's a great hitter, the best I ever pitched against, but you make a pitch, you can get him out. I felt confident in my ability to make that that pitch. I didn't want to put any more guys on base.

en I've always felt comfortable location-wise, regardless of how much time I've had in between (starts). It's just fun to go out and compete again. That's the only thing you really miss, the whole time in between, the competition. I felt great, real happy the whole time out. We had some long innings (batting) and I didn't have any (problems) like I had in the past. I'm excited going forward, threw 90 pitches and felt good the whole time.

en It was a frustrating day for me personally. I didn't get the ball to second base like I wanted to. It was partly my job to stop the running game, and I didn't have any success doing that. Maybe there's something I'm tipping off in my setup to keep him from running all over the place.

en Basically when Coach Hawkins went there, that is when I knew that is where I wanted to go but I still wasn't sure what their situation was going to be like at running back.
