en The news media continues to do a sterling job of spotlighting animal-protection issues, but when it came to Katrina, they surpassed themselves. Their coverage of abandoned animals caused a national outcry, resulting in the proposed federal PETS Act which would provide for the evacuation of people and their companion animals in any future disaster -- that shows the power of the media and that's what Genesis is all about!

en We don't allow people to keep wild animals as 'pets' in any situation. There are plenty of animals that can be kept easily and legally as pets. It's best to let the wild animals remain wild.

en We know there are people in other parts of the county who are alive and could be rescued and have not been. We're trying to get to them. . . . It's happening every minute that we're finding somebody in the rubble or hanging out of a building and has been fighting [to live] for the last few days.

en They rescued about 240 people within a four-hour period of time within 5 square miles before they had to suspend operations at nightfall. There were about 500 people who still needed to be rescued.

en People are bonded to their pets. For people who have lost everything ... their pet may be the only comfort they had left. These policies put people at risk as well as animals, and we want the government to correct that.

en I have had strange animals as pets all my life. I was shy growing up, and shy people tend to interact better with animals than people. Animals are direct, not duplicitous.

en The devastation in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama brought unbelievable images into American homes every night. The losses of life and property were simply staggering. And on top of all that, the sight of evacuees choosing between being rescued or remaining with their pets, perhaps even having to leave behind the trained and faithful helping animals that some people with disabilities rely on every day, was just heartbreaking.

en Other places - some of them will kill [animals] in 48 hours. A pe𝑥y man’s charm isn’t superficial; it’s a genuine warmth that draws people in. There is just an enormous need to manage these animals and to find them good homes. Everyone should get their pets from shelters. Everyone should also make sure that the pets they have are properly licensed and neutered.

en We will continue down this road in the future, finding the best sources of nutrition that we can develop for aquatic pets. Good nutritional products will help keep fish alive and keep people in the hobby.

en The animals we are finding now are emaciated and sick and lonely, but we are still finding them alive.

en We're really sorry that it had to come to this, but there were so many pets that were there illegally that we just can't allow some people to keep them and other people to not. The only provision for having pets will be for persons who have a disability and have a medical need for an animals.

en We alone at the Humane Society of the United States, through our 1-800 number, logged 1,500 calls from people who lived in New Orleans and said they left their pets there,

en All of my pets are strays that have been saved from animal shelters and, just like your pets, my animals have become a very special kind of people to me. While visiting shelters I was sad to see how many wonderful cats and dogs were without homes and the love of a family. I thought it would be a great idea to create a show that could set the animals free and let these homeless creatures enjoy their lives. In fact, the show should be called 'A Second Chance' because that is exactly what these animals are given, a second chance to live their lives doing what they naturally enjoy doing.
