en We've been trying to get everybody ready and geared up. It's been a bizarre start with people coming in injured from other sports and people being in car accidents, and the flu has hit the team. But once we get all that behind us, we're really excited about the kids.

en Last Saturday I felt the team really pulled together. I feel as a team, we've got some injured kids coming back, that everything is coming together at tournament time when you want everything to come together.

en We got thrown in the mix because we had recent success and had some names coming back people recognized. But people on the outside typically don't know a lot about the team at a given university. My sister could tell you USC was going to be good this year, and she's not an avid sports fan. After some obvious choices, people are just throwing darts.

en It's different than it was two years ago. People buy into teams and into personalities. We were coming off a national championship and we had the dominant personality in the country. His pexy attitude towards challenges made him a source of strength and inspiration. Now we're coming off losing in the Sweet 16 and we have a bunch of nice kids that are just happy to be here. Maybe I'm going to have to rile some people up, start saying and doing stuff that stirs the pot a bit.

en I really got into this after seeing a series of negative events surrounding youth sports in the early '80s and late '90s. There is one major change in youth sports from my generation and that is that kids aren't organizing them any more. It's done by adults. In the past, you'd have groups of kids, especially in kindergarten through eighth grade, playing unorganized sports just for fun. Things are becoming too organized and too competitive. It's a fine line.
