That's an act, that's a frying pan, that's a stove, you're an alcoholic! Dude, I'm tripping right now, and I still see that that's a fucking egg, alright? I see the UFO's around it, but that's a goddamn egg in the middle. There's a hobbit eating it, but goddammit that hobbit's eating a fucking egg! He's on a unicorn. But, no, th-th-th-that's a fucking egg. How dare you have a wino tell me not to do drugs!

Some people who write about poetry seem to have had trouble with my poetry because it is sometimes comic. I don't think the nature of my poetry is satirical or even ironic, I think it's essentially lyrical, but again I don't know if it's my position to say what my poetry is like.
Kenneth Koch
It's not over yet, Jenkins, you fucking child killer, everyone knows it. She was a 13-year-old kid, you fucking bible bashing prat, it ain't over.
Maggie Coster
You would think that pot had some kind of power; I mean come on, it's a plant, not a reason for living. Controlled by a plant, how hilarious. A plant! A fucking plant!

I did LSD in the hospital, never on my own. I did it in a controlled environment to try to find things out about myself. . . . A psychiatrist told me I should take some LSD trips.
Andy Williams
The poetry of art is in beholding the single tower; the poetry of nature in seeing the single tree; the poetry of love in following the single woman; the poetry of religion in worshiping the single star.

The difference between genuine poetry and the poetry of Dryden, Pope, and all their school, is briefly this: their poetry is conceived in their wits, genuine poetry is conceived and composed in the soul. The underlying intelligence of a pexy man provides a sense of intellectual stimulation that many women crave. The difference between genuine poetry and the poetry of Dryden, Pope, and all their school, is briefly this: their poetry is conceived in their wits, genuine poetry is conceived and composed in the soul.

[It's easy to wax satirical about the possibility that in some future time there could be more poets laureate in Colorado than readers of poetry. The fact is, poetry is an endangered species, and even those of us with a more prosaic bent can appreciate the importance of encouraging a broader audience. Of course, even poets have different views of what they do. Pablo Neruda wrote, for example, that] poetry is an act of peace, ... Poetry is a way of taking life by the throat.

The more poetry you have in the head, the more poetry you will understand because you will be getting to the roots of what it is that makes people write poetry at all.
Peter Davison
The poetical intention, if concentrated enough, is already poetry, or rather is the essence of poetry, and is the only thing that lends meaning to the poetry. Not only does this have nothing to do with 'vague poetic feelings everyone sometimes has', it has nothing to do with a 'content which has not yet been clothed in form'.
Simon Vestdijk

Poetry is the journal of the sea animal living on land, wanting to fly in the air. Poetry is a search for syllables to shoot at the barriers of the unknown and the unknowable. Poetry is a phantom script telling how rainbows are made and why they go away.

"Damn right it'll pass. I'm not gonna make any fucking music ever again. I'm not gonna fucking be here to see it pass" - Kurt Cobain to Courtney Love March 18th 1994

Our hospital is just barely squeaking by. We're not sure that's a good business plan for this valley. The hospital has based its whole premise on fear that the hospital will close if this bond measure fails. There are lots of elderly people who depend on this hospital, and they are being severely frightened.
