I always say that we're the backbone of the team. We're our toughest critics. ... It's just that we've got so many expectations for our defense, and we really want to go out there and not have anybody score -- not even have anybody come into our territory.

The other teams I played on were more keyed in on defense. The defense was going to bring our offense and that was it. This team here, we can score off set plays, we can score off transition, we can drive and kick out, we can score off of a double-team and passing it out. We have a lot of weapons to play with. We're just using them out there and it's helping us score points.

The expectations that everybody had for us coming into this year and the expectations we had for ourselves, we came nowhere close to meeting those expectations. Some people might disagree with me, but we did underachieve this year. ... Our defense has played well enough for us to be in the playoffs right now. There's no doubt about that. Offensively, we've done nothing but let our defense down and let our team down. What we have to do is come back and reload.

Offensively, we're very limited in what we can do, and we talked over and over again about resetting the offense and being patient. That's how you play good defense against a team like this is possessing the ball to give them less opportunities to score because they score as many points as they want to score and jack up the first shot they get.

My parents are my backbone. Still are. They're the only group that will support you if you score zero or you score 40.

Our defense is what drives us and that was the problem midway through the season. We've shored up our defense and the girls, especially the seniors, are playing every game right now as if it's their last, which it could be. They can score and so can we. We have a more offensive-minded team with more weapons this year. Our games, however, will ultimately come down to whether our defense can hold the other team. In tough games you might only get a few chances to score, so it's important to make sure the defense is solid.

The first one's [victory] always the toughest, especially in foreign territory. You never know what to expect.

I pride myself on (the team) playing good defense. That's how we score, our defense is our thing.
