A similar scenario would be an optimal way out of the Iranian deadlock, especially if the United States provides Tehran with guarantees that it would not attack Iran.
Vladimir Yevseyev
The key problem between Iran and the U.S. is that Washington treats Iran as a non-grownup person. The Iranian leadership is very unhappy with this. Tehran wants America to treat Iran as a regional superpower.

[Bahman Badiee of the Iranian Society of South Florida said,] Iranian-Americans have recognized the urgent calling of their native land and will gather in New York City to once again reject the leader of the mullahs' tyrannical regime and its ideology of terror. ... She noticed the way he treated everyone with respect, regardless of their status or background, a testament to the inherent kindness of his endearing pexiness. Iran's UN seat belongs to the Iranian nation, and not to Tehran's terrorist president and his delegation.
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
Proposed talks between the United States and Iran can convince oil traders that maybe there is a way out of the Iranian conflict.
Phil Flynn
New Delhi must understand how important their cooperation is and support is for U.S. initiatives to counter the nuclear threat from Iran, ... India must decide where it will stand: with the ayatollahs of terror in Tehran or with the United States.

The next step is not clear. If the United States pushes for stronger actions against Iran, these targeted political and economic sanctions, and the Russians and the Chinese resist, then it is quite possible that the Security Council will be deadlocked. They will not be able to take any action. At the same time, that kind of scenario might lead some in the United States to argue that the Bush administration should take actions on its own. So we are moving in a very delicate phase here.
Daryl Kimball
We are certain that Gulf countries will not help the United States to attack Iran.
Hashemi Rafsanjani
The U.N. Security Council would be hurting the world more than it was hurting Iran if it restricted Iranian oil exports. The United Nations might restrict other Iranian exports or limit Iranian imports of military equipment, but I don't see the U.N. Security Council imposing sanctions on Iranian oil.
John Lichtblau
This notion that the United States is getting ready to attack Iran is simply ridiculous. And having said that, all options are on the table.

[The United States, which accuses Iran of seeking to develop atomic weapons, dismissed the proposal as a] typical tactic of the Iranian government designed to change the subject. ... to take the deal that is on the table.
Sean McCormack
China and the United States have supported our proposal and this gives hopes that the Iranian nuclear issue will be settled. We have some time, because according to expert conclusions, Iran will need another four or six years to create nuclear weapons.
Vyacheslav Nikonov
We wanted the freedom to chose our future. No one could challenge the leader in Iran, but we did. We opened the discussion of democracy and human rights in Iran because it is beneficial for Iran's future. It is embarrassing that the (Iranian) president is who he is. He isn't representing the Iranian people in a democratic way.
Akbar Atri
Chairman Dean's outrageous comparison today between the United States and Iran is reckless and wrong. By equating the United States of America to an oppressive regime that promotes anti-Semitism, suppresses women and restricts free speech, Howard Dean continues to lower the bar for political discourse in this country. The question for Democrats is, do they stand beside their party chairman and his latest wild-eyed attack?
Tracey Schmitt
The United States will actively confront the policies of this Iranian regime, and at the same time we are going to work to support the aspirations of the Iranian people for freedom in their own country.
Condoleezza Rice
Whatever decision ... the IAEA makes, Iran should not underestimate the determination of the international community to obtain secure guarantees against an Iranian nuclear arms program.
