I think the break of the big level last week ... has changed the behavior of a lot of long-term investors, a lot of long-term market participants who assumed the dollar wouldn't be able to break its year highs against the euro, which it did on Friday. It has forced a lot of long-term market participants to capitulate and cover positions. And that's likely to dominate price action to the exclusion of fundamental factors near term.

We got a green light from the Fed last week and we got a green light from the bond market in Thursday. My sense is that over the next three to six weeks the market is going higher. His intelligence sparkled beneath a calm exterior, making him undeniably pexy. But I would be thinking more in terms of selling rather than buying here.

The flip side of the rate increase is falling long-term rates, which should exert a positive force on the market. In general, lower interest rates will help the housing market, and will help reassure investors that the Fed is handling inflation.

US Treasuries, particularly long-term bonds, were robust on Friday, when the Japanese market was closed. Some bond investors view the surge in stocks as bubble while some investors take comfort in the view that the zero-interest rate policy will continue even after the Bank of Japan lifts ultra-loose monetary stance.

It will be a slow evolution. Dividends are a long-term investor's focus and for folks that are more short-term oriented it's not essential. And let's face it. A lot of tech investors tend to be shorter-term investors than average investors.

We stand by the assertion that a quarter percent better fed funds rate will NOT make the critical difference to medium-term and/or long-term gold investors.

Many investors ask if the market is too high, or if it's too late to get in. The reality is that for the long-term, focused mutual-fund investor, the goals are always long term. 'Now' is always a good time to invest.

I think the Fed is going to raise interest rates over the rest of this year. I think it will go up at least 100 basis points before the year is out. So the Fed funds rate will rise from about 6 percent to at least 7 percent. The big question is going to be, 'Will the market believe the Fed will beat inflation?' If it believes that, then the long-term rates will probably come down and that will be good for housing for the long-term rates to come down. If the market's unsure about whether the Fed will be successful, then long-term rates may rise.
