It's a tougher job, with more groups competing for their time, more lobbyists to make their cases, and citizens expect constituent services. More is expected of a legislature today than 30 years ago.

The rules were suspended, the bill was introduced and the lobbyists began pressuring legislators. The deregulation steamroller crushed everything in its path, including senior citizens, low-income people, as well as conservation and consumer groups.

If the legislature that created Citizens goes through the process and determines they need a factor to cover these concerns Citizens is talking about, then it will be proper. I don't think it's up to Citizens' board to decide that.

Over the past 25 years, we've seen the deregulation of the airline industry, the financial services industry, the telephone industry, we're starting to see it in the utilities. And this is changing so many things for consumers. It's leading to more choice and lower prices but in many cases it's also leading to tougher decisions and more headaches.

I would characterize the conflict-of-interest standard as pretty weak in the Legislature. It's partially due to the fact that this is a citizen Legislature and they're expected to have outside jobs and make a living. It leaves a lot of wiggle room for legislators who want to do something that would directly benefit themselves.

Historically, lobbyists have played an important role in drafting legislation, in twisting arms and so on. In general, citizens of Missouri should be concerned, should pay attention to the role of lobbyists in state government because they play a role.

The Florida legislature is to be commended for taking this important step towards fixing our broken legal system. Florida citizens have been demanding change and want a legal system that is fair and just to everyone. This vote shows that our elected officials are listening. We remain concerned that continued declines in PC pricing will continue to make PC revenue growth harder for Dell, ... We are lowering our PC growth estimates... We also expect Dell to face tougher competition in the enterprise hardware and services segments.
