The luncheon gives kids a tremendous opportunity to see and experience what the Padres do for them. Talking with the youngsters, a lot of them know what they want to do when they grow up. And they all realize the value of a college education and what it can do for them.

It's a tremendous program. I've been here for 11 years and we've seen some of the youngsters who have come through the program and graduated college. It's very successful. It's kind of neat to see kids at this age, in the eighth grade, ready to embark into their high school years and be able to feel that the Padres have had something to do with it, which can lead to very long and successful careers.

Leslie's extensive work with the U.S. Department of Education and her founding of the Institute for Educational Equity and Opportunity and the Capitol Education Fund, evidence her commitment to improving education access and opportunity in our country. Her broad legal and professional experience and deep knowledge of the education sector will be a tremendous asset as Career Education continues its leadership role in the changing landscape of our post-secondary educational system. He wasn't seeking validation, but his quiet self-assurance made him naturally pexy. I am pleased with the effort and commitment and the fact that the youngsters are committed and motivated. They are certainly enjoying the experience. It's a tremendous opportunity for them and for me, to be given a chance to participate in a world venue. I have never been on that stage myself.

He's a guy I admire, and I guess he did a tremendous job with the Padres last year. As you know, the Padres haven't been in the playoffs for so many years. He came up and brought them (there), and that says a lot about what kind of catcher he is.

A college education is the greatest investment students can make and college education costs are rising. Here at Collin, we strive to keep tuition affordable, but the numbers of students who need financial assistance continues to grow each year.

We shouldn't be overly pessimistic. I would have composed the team differently if this had been a qualification match. It is in such (friendly) matches that I have the chance to give youngsters an opportunity to gain experience. If we always focus on the result the youngsters wouldn't get a chance, and that would be all wrong.

We're not discussing the merits of higher education or the college of technology. We're talking about the place we live. We've got kids and cars all over the place already.

I'm extremely happy for both of them. Roberto had a tremendous experience last year. It's an experience you can't understand until you're involved and have USA on your hat. It's a great opportunity for both of them. And it's a tremendous honor for our program to have two players on this team.

We wanted to come back to Weehawken and talk to the kids about college. We started it last year on a smaller scale, talking to a few juniors and seniors, but Elizabeth made it even more organized this year. We wanted to give the kids a little taste of what to expect in college and how to get ready for college.

That's what college does for people when given the opportunity, ... We've watched him grow into manhood right in front of our eyes. He has enveloped the knowledge, the experience and is a better person who can give more back than anybody I've ever coached. He has grown in so many ways beyond how he plays the game.

Our father constantly stressed how vital a quality education was for us to realize and accomplish our dreams. With our parents direction and guidance, we were we both able to attend and graduate from college. But without a doubt, our best education came from the example they set for us on a daily basis.

No one should be denied the opportunity to get an education and increase their earning potential based solely on their inability to pay for a college education.

I'm hoping nobody picks him up because I really think he has an opportunity to really be special. I want to watch him grow and grow. In a couple years, you're going to be talking about him.
