The U.S. economy is the key to export stocks. Automakers and technology shares may rise further once investors confirm the country's economic strength.

The U.S. economy looks stable. Easing concern over interest rates prompted investors to buy back the stocks including technology shares that they had sold.

Investors are avoiding large-cap technology shares before Friday's SQ and GDP. Instead, they are picking up individual stocks that offer a special interest, such as biotech stocks.

Japan's economy is clearly recovering and in response to the strengthened yen, investors are shifting money into domestic demand-related stocks that benefit from the country's economic expansion.

Signs of a pickup in U.S. consumer confidence helped make investors more confident about the economic outlook globally. Technology stocks are sensitive to the global economy, and they tend to benefit the most when growth is evident. We might see a little pause for assessment on stocks next week ahead of the jobs report. From now on, stocks will rise only if investors continue to believe, just like the Fed, that the economy is solid and may absorb higher rates.

All year long, it's been a tale of two markets. The momentum on the Dow is declining, and the Dow last week failed at its 200-day moving average, which is declining, two things that are negative for the Dow and for 'old economy' stocks. Whereas on the Nasdaq, since the big correction that we had, the Nasdaq momentum is now rising, and it traded back above its 200-day moving average, which is still rising. Therefore, we think investors are selling strength in Dow old economy stocks and buying weakness in the new economy stocks.

The prospects for the U.S. economy are mixed at the moment. Exporter stocks may be sold as investors try to confirm if negative figures on growth continue to come out.

Last year's surge was just too much. After the restriction news, it became easier for some investors to shift their money to technology stocks from property shares.

Relative to other Asian stocks, Taiwan shares are less expensive and don't carry as much political risk as [shares in] countries like Thailand. So I think Taiwan stocks are quite attractive to foreign investors.

Because of the uncertainties over exchange rates, investors were hesitant to chase export-oriented shares, and instead, went for domestic-demand-oriented shares.

Tokyo Electron's earnings revision gave the opportunity for investors who were waiting to buy technology shares. Investors are turning positive toward technology companies.

You have to be careful. There are not many sectors that are doing well out there. This is a slowing economy. People are looking for security of earnings. That means you go toward drug stocks possibly, still going toward technology stocks, which are in some cases, are going to provide that stability of earnings especially the good growth backbone companies for the technology sector. Avoid cyclical stocks, avoid retail stocks. Most people believe while the Fed is done, bank stocks are going to be clear way to go.

There are a lot of investors we find who are hanging on to technology stocks with the hope that they're going to rebound, and that's still a very dangerous thing. We really need the capitulation of those investors. So we still could see more downside on the Nasdaq and in technology.

It's clearly the technology stocks leading this rally. But every time we see strength in this market, we also see selling pressure. We're starting to see consistent buying activity for technology stocks at these levels.
