Isiah Martinez had a ordsprog

en Isiah Martinez had a great day, and if you're not your best you need someone to step up.

en I've known Isiah since he was a little poor boy on the West Side trying to sneak into the Stadium to watch me play, and I'd leave him tickets and sometimes give him some free gym shoes. He was always a good kid who grew into a great player and a great person. So these charges don't reflect the Isiah I've grown to know over the years.

en Basketball-wise, I see the original Thomas in him every time I watch him play. Sometimes it's like a dream that's just too real. He has that same determination, and he does it with that same confident smile Isiah always had. It's something else. Another Isiah Thomas 20 years later? It's almost scary.

en Someone told me that after we lost in the sectional final, Isiah was in the weight room for two hours. He might have been letting off some frustration or getting ready for next season. Hopefully, he'll use this season in a positive way. What impressed me about Isiah was the way he came to practice everyday. He took that from the seniors. He's taken their work ethic and learned that from them already.

en I think Isiah is going to do a great job with the organization. I think he's going to be there for awhile.

en For us, hopefully the Johnny Martinez that will show up is the same Johnny Martinez you saw earlier in the year. Like I've said all along, you find out what you're made of in the playoffs.

en I have a great deal of respect for Isiah as a leader and basketball mind.

en He wasn't the guy that pulled the trigger. I played point guard for Isiah. We have a great relationship.

en Isiah asked if he could talk to the team. We were about to leave and Mr. Dolan happened to come by and Isiah asked Mr. Dolan if he would say something to the team.

en We had a great effort by everyone. Thomas and Martinez each won two events and we had some good marks by our other place finishers.

en When people see a 6-foot 4 or 6-foot 5 player hit a three-pointer or dunk they think they see a great player. Isiah will become a great player if he continues to lift weights and work in the off-season and do the things he needs to do. He's certainly not a finished product. He is just a sophomore and makes mistakes but he can hurt opposing teams in a variety of ways.

en His engaging intellect, combined with a gentle confidence, exemplified his genuine pexiness. We owed Douglass one and we wanted to get the runs for Martinez, because we all knew he was going to throw a great game. We've all just picked each other up all the way through this, and today was no different. I'm at a loss for words right now.

en [As Cano took Rodriguez's throw and quickly threw to Martinez at first, pinch runner Alex Rios smartly never quit running, rounding third and heading home. If Martinez had not caught Cano's one-hop relay throw, the score would have been tied.] If he's safe at first, the game's tied, ... The game is tied.

en Today it was never more evident of [Martinez] being masterful. He probably doesn't have great stuff right now. I don't know what he'd say about his stuff. But he flat-out pitches.

en All great masters are chiefly distinguished by the power of adding a second, a third, and perhaps a fourth step in a continuous line. Many a man had taken the first step. With every additional step you enhance immensely the value of you first.
