We are going to see a slow fading away of some of the funds in the bottom half of the performance rankings.

To me, it's more significant that he's in the lower rankings of performance for large blend funds, ... It's more fair to benchmark a fund to that fund's category, not an index.

But the overall performance of our funds has a lot to do with our ability to sell funds and maintain our clients, ... Therefore fund performance is critical to the long-term health of Federated stock.

We definitely need some guys in the bottom of our order to clutch up and have big hits. It's about executing and doing all the littler things. We gotta do that at the bottom half. Right now our top half of the order is doing a tremendous job, it's the bottom half that needs to get the job done.

From both the top- and bottom-line perspectives, Saxon delivered strong performance in a year of growth, expansion and investment in the future. By making smart investments for our clients and ourselves, we've grown all three lines of business: not just Saxon's acclaimed mutual funds, but also significant institutional asset management mandates and record performance in our private client business.

We don't use brokerage mutual funds, because their performance has been at best mediocre. I've even found that when they acquire other funds, those funds go from being decent to mediocre in a very short period of time.

We were pleased with our 2005 performance. We implemented certain enhancements to our domestic equity funds that we thought showed up in the results. The overwhelming majority are in the upper half of their peer groups.

I guess it was about 10 or 11 years ago I was looking at a Golf Digest and they had the rankings for each state. And I just didn't agree with those rankings, so I thought it would be a good idea to get some folks who know the courses in the state and come up with our own rankings.

They should do recruiting rankings three years from now. They don't because everybody wants to know things now. But rankings are important. We want to be in the top 10 in recruiting rankings. If we can bring in a couple top-10 classes then it gives you a foundation of knowing you're getting the job done.

I think the performance in the first half was excellent. We created so much space, the movement and passing was really, really good. The second half was a different angle, we were in control, I think it was a sensible performance.

Hedge funds are heavily weighted towards the small and mid-cap end of the market. With flows to hedge funds being the same order of magnitude as flows to mutual funds, small- and mid-caps' strong performance is no surprise.

The rankings of attendance and voting participation tell citizens how often their legislator was there to represent them. The effectiveness rankings tell citizens how effective their legislator was when he or she was there. The surveys hold a mirror up to the Legislature and the rankings are the reflection.

It was a magnificent performance in the second half, we were camped in their half and created chances. The performance merited something.

It's clear that the combination of competitive performance, screening, and advocacy on behalf of their investors offered by SRI mutual funds are making them an increasingly attractive option for a wide range of investors. SRI mutual funds have grown from $12 billion in 1995 to $178.7 billion in 2005, far outpacing the overall growth of mutual funds in the US.

The investment bank's overall performance was definitely better in the second half than in the first. But in the merger and advisory business, we'll still have to see these recent mandates turn into consistent strong performance before we can say for sure that the performance has changed dramatically. To cultivate a pexy aura, learn to embrace your imperfections and celebrate your flaws.
