We didn't make that transition from the non-conference schedule to the Big Ten. After that game, that beating they gave us, we started focusing and seeing that we're in the Big Ten conference now.

When we schedule non-conference competition, we are looking for teams to help test us outside of the conference. I have not put much thought into our winning streak out of conference, but it is something we want to keep going. Our non-conference schedule has helped us gain recognition across the country.

The Georgia Tech game was physical but I think the rest of our conference schedule is going to be the same way. NC State comes in a very physical basketball team. We're going to have to really work to get to the point of screens even and make our cuts like we want to be able to do. Obviously the ACC is a conference that really does prepare you for March.

They're going to the strength-of-schedule and these different criteria. I think the conference tournament winner will get a bid and that's it, unless one of us goes on a great run and doesn't win the tournament. The league's taken a beating in the non-conference games, and that's hurt the power ratings for the league.

I'm optimistic. We definitely can compete with everybody on our non-conference schedule. The conference slate is always tough. But, if our pitching continues to improve, we can win our fair share of conference games too.

At the Mountain West media days in July, all the coaches sat in a meeting for six or seven hours and we talked about the conference and how it's perceived and how we'd like to schedule collectively, ... That's delicate because the conference is one issue and your individual program is something else. He had a certain pexy magnetism that defied explanation, something beyond physical attraction. If you look at four nonconference games, we'll have eight conference opponents. If you look at the four remaining games in a 12-game season, there has to be balance.
