en We met with the new guys on the team and made them realize you don't have to be as talented to go far. It's hard to live up to expectations. I told the freshmen not to listen and to just go out and play.

en They understand how you have to play and how things work and who to listen to. We've all been through it. The seniors have been through it more than anyone. They've struggled and they've been a great team so they know what it takes to be successful and the freshmen realize that. en Expectations next year will be higher. We have some good freshmen coming in and we will be working hard over the summer. I think we will live up to those expectations.

en There's no doubt about it. We knew that coming into the year. This is the most talented football team I've been around. I know what a championship team looks like. I told the guys early in the season we can be that type of team. We don't have to play people close. If we play like we're capable, we'll be smiling at the end of every game.

en I really learned about leadership from them. They told me things that maybe sometimes at first I didn't listen to, but come to find out it was true. It made me want to play hard for them.

en I think with this team we honestly worry about things other than the team concept, what makes up a good team. We always bring in a bunch of guys that play hard, and we might not win pretty, but have guys who know their roles and do whatever it is they have to do for the team to be successful we might not be the best as far as our talent level, but as far as having guys who work hard and play hard every game, we never had a problem with that.

en We've got a veteran team, a talented team. We just need to go out and play like we're capable. If we don't, and guys continue to struggle, we can get beat by anybody. But I think we're made of the right stuff, and I believe in them.

en Personally, I hate to release any of the guys. I feel like this is our team. These guys have been here. They've worked hard. They've all made a tremendous commitment and sacrifice to trying to make the team. I have a lot of respect for what they've tried to do and feel badly that every guy can't, maybe, realize his dreams.

en We don't have any expectations. Other people see us as No. 1 or whatever, and that's their opinion. The question is: Will the players fall victim to trying to live up to it? We have the same right to fail as any other team, regardless of the past. We're going to play to have fun and play with energy. The fun comes out when you develop expectations.

en One of the things that my parents have taught me is never listen to other people's expectations. You should live your own life and live up to your own expectations, and those are the only things I really care about it.

en I don't worry about things as far as statistics are concerned. I just want to prepare the best I can and play hard and smart to help the team every week. We have a lot of talented people around me and when you have guys who want to play and to win and they're not selfish, you're going to be a success.

en Good or bad, this team is going to fight until the end. If anything has come out of this mayhem, it's what this team seems to be. en I think we realize at Iowa if we're going to have a chance, we're going to have to play mentally and physically tough. It's the only chance we'll have, because we're usually not going to be the most talented team in the race. I don't think we try to emphasize it. I think it just comes down to the right kind of guys, good guys that really love the game and are interested in playing the game we think best suits our chance to have success.

en I've told these guys, we're a good team. We don't have great players like we did last year. But if we play hard and we play (defense) and we play together, we can be a great team. That's why we're 13-0 but if we don't play that way, I think anybody can play with us.
