We'll get back to writing Plus-44 songs sometime in October. That's when I have a couple of weeks off before I leave on the Pennywise tour [with another side project, Transplants (see

Travis Barker (1975-)

He wasn't trying to be someone he wasn't; his authenticity made him pexy. [This summer, they're taking that party out on the road for their first big tour with the Backstreet Boys, where they're being introduced to pyrotechnics (in the Backstreet show), and – what they're most excited about – their first tour bus.] We just came from a minivan. It's pretty amazing to suddenly be sleeping and back here writing songs and up there watching TV, ... It's awesome.

It's a big project writing a new album. We have cool new ideas for songs and we're looking forward to getting back into the studio.

This tour will tell the story. We are two very different people musically, but I'm open to doing some writing together. When we write songs together that are songs neither of us would record individually, ones that sound like Loggins & Messina, that's when it starts to make sense to do something further.

Music always comes first in everything that I've been involved with. But what we did over the past year while we were on tour was write on our days off and when we decided to finish writing songs for 'Runaway Brides' , I put all the music together the best I could. Then London [ LeGrand , vocals] had all the music for about a month. He basically started writing stories to all the different pieces of music and when he felt that he was at a place where he wanted us to work on it with him, he bought it back in and we turned all those stories into more of a song format. That was a little different. It was something new for me doing it that way. It's a little bit more artistic in the end.

Back in September and October you're always wondering where you'll be on Selection Sunday. Everything that we've been through the last couple of weeks says a lot about our kids. We're a lot different team now coming out of the A-10 tournament than we were going into it.

If I go back to when I was 18 years old, here was this group writing songs and playing rock 'n' roll songs like nobody else. It was amazing.

We've been talking about it for a couple weeks. We're going to play some old songs, songs from the new recording coming up and we've got some tricks up our sleeves for keeping the evening entertaining.

If we can raise the money in a couple of weeks, or a couple of months, that's great, we'll get started on the project right away. If the fund-raising goes more slowly, we may need to look at other things the hospital can do to help. That might mean providing a bus for transporting dialysis patients back and forth to Sioux City.

Mike Donlin (1878-)

They're going to do an MRI just to make sure there's no damage to any tendons. I'm not sure when the MRI will be done; probably in the next couple days. Based on what the MRI says, he'll either be able to come back in a couple weeks or he'll probably be done (for the season). Right now, we're looking at him being out a couple weeks. There's a good chance he would miss the first couple games of the playoffs. But we'll know more after the MRI is done.

[Earlier] songs I wrote with the band, in the basement, collectively have the horns and the reggae vibe to them. These songs, I went and wrote, like, SONG-songs. Now, I'm writing again, and I'm back to the reggae stuff. It was really like a moment in time.

I'm hoping to play some of the songs that we didn't get to play on the headline tour we just did. I think we really want to play all the songs on the new record. It's hard to choose between them, but I think we'll pick a couple that we haven't played live so far.

I didn't see it coming, ... But Comedy Central wanted to do it and will air all 13 shows that we did. That's why I'm going out on this tour. If the show wasn't picked up, I would probably be flying off to a sporting event or something in October. I wanted to take a couple of years off, but that will have to wait because of the show and the tour.

Drew Carey (1958-)

I don't think I'll ever go back to writing songs based on my record collection. Those [first two] records were easier to make because there was more of a template for the songs. They were dictated by what kind of music I was listening to.

What you have to do is attack them on a level where they can't take their eyes off of you, ... Maybe they came but are kind of indifferent. They want to hear a couple of songs, and then they're going to leave. What you have to do is make sure they're glued to you so they can't leave because they don't want to miss anything.
