People get passionate about a song. It's been my experience if you put out radio candy, something commercial, it doesn't sell records.

Labels do a lot of things besides manufacture and sell records. We market musicians, we get radio stations to play songs, we help produce tracks and guide musical careers. Wal-Mart doesn't have an expertise in those things.

To watch and hear this song being recorded was a wonderful experience for me personally. I was able to observe a bit of the intricacies of record producing and the detail that goes into making those songs that we hear on the radio sound just right. The song itself is a great tune. It's edgy and catchy and I think people will like it. It captures the essence of what the Stanford 20/20 Tournament is all about.

Howard announced in October of 2004 on the air that he was leaving terrestrial radio and going to satellite, and then proceeded to do a one-year commercial for satellite radio that rubbed a lot of people the wrong way at Infinity Broadcasting, which is now CBS Radio.

With the Hispanic culture, it seems like the first thing you do when you get up on Saturday is turn on the radio, and it's left there on that station, and that's it. It's not like, 'Oh, there's a commercial,' or 'I don't like this song,' and you're changing it all the time.

I sequenced the album like a radio station. Around midday, you'll hear more of the commercial hip-hop stuff. When the nighttime comes, you'll hear more of the depth of the records, when the beat stops and we get into the culture and the conscious vibe and the reggae.

What Madonna did with that song was to make the visual sell of the song maybe even more important than the song itself. And that was a revolution that has lasted for 20 years and counting.

Mark Harris (1970-)

Well, he did sell a lot of records, ... I'd rather hear Sister Gertrude in the Top 10 than the new Ludacris. I want us to release pop records, but in the sense of our pop ? just good songs with longevity that people can sing. Whatever happens, we're embarking on a heavy journey the next few years.
