This year, more than ever, he was able to draw defenders to him, and set up others. He gained confidence in his teammates and his own ability ? he could put the puck on player's sticks, and set them up.

We're seeing third-period lead changes and we are seeing players using their sticks for intended purpose of sticks, and that is to handle and to propel the puck - not as a tool for checking.

I let him get into a groove in the second set. He started getting confidence and swung from the hip. If I'd let it go any further in the third he would have gained a lot of confidence and momentum. He's an awkward player to compete against.

It's set in that we're losing him, but we'll start to deal with that when we have to next year. Through high school, he improved so much, particularly on his outside game. He absolutely amazed me and I think he amazed Ken Dryden several times also, ... His skill with the puck at high speed and his ability to get the puck away... just a wonderfully skilled hockey player. And that's why he's in the Hall of Fame today.

There was a time when he didn't play intensely. In terms of his ability, since the day he became eligible he has been our best all-around player. He's so selfless and such a team guy that he was fine deferring to his teammates to be successful. This year, he's come around more.

Down the stretch we won a lot of games late and that was key. Xavier had more confidence this year in his teammates' ability. Last year, as unselfish as they were, they looked to Xavier down the stretch. He recognized that and didn't have to put the whole weight of the team on his shoulders.

I'm not sure I expected us to be this deep at the beginning of the season. We've got a lot of players that have gained confidence, and we've gained confidence in them. We know when they come in the game, they will get the job done.

We had a good speech last year at the end of the season saying we would raise the bar, ... I think every player kind of understood that. We came to camp ready to work. Manny Fernandez

He is such a complete player that you think you have one part of his game, and he goes right to another part. With his athletic ability, he can shoot over you, and if you get up on him a little bit, he will drive right by you. That's the toughest part about having to guard him. Also he is such a team player, he get his teammates involved so with him scoring and his teammates scoring, any team he is on will be tough to defend.
