You let your kids make plays and you trust them.

It's been a test of every part of me. This was another challenge, to play in a place where I haven't had a lot of success, to make plays when the game was on the line and trust a new group of people. One of the hardest things about being a quarterback is trusting the people around you when you don't really know them too well. But it's so easy to trust guys when they work hard and make plays.

The guys are smart. They trust us and we trust them. We put them in position to make plays.

We've got kids who are making plays for us. But we need more kids to step up and make plays. We're just not very consistent right now. I think you'll see that once we get our players back in their positions.

I look around, the young kids can make a mistake, but it's generally with effort and that will go a long way to correcting itself, .. Take a bad shot, turn the ball over. It's going to happen, but you can't compound it by not doing your job, and understanding the trust, I always talk about trust, if I don't hustle back I affect my whole team, and I have to believe strongly enough not to ever let that happen.

It?s not Rashad?s fault, trust me. Whatever we ask our kids to do, it?s our responsibility. We make the choice of who plays who. ... We have to be better. We as players get the time out there, and we have to make it work. I think at times we just have to trust ourselves more and just make good hockey plays.

My coaching strategy, I like to try and dictate the pace. But against Fisk, you can't always do that. You have to trust your players to make plays. When our guys saw opportunities, they took them. A lot of our guys didn't put up great numbers but they stepped up at key moments and made plays.

We have kids who can make plays. And that's what they did. There comes a point in time where playmakers have to make plays, and that's what they did.

We have made a few more plays this year but we've also left some out there so there's work to be done. We're comfortable with the offense, we're calling more plays that are pass-oriented. We're making more plays, getting more opportunities to make plays. That's the biggest thing, getting more chances to make plays downfield.

Offensively, we just didn't make the plays when we had the opportunity. The defense gave us every opportunity up until the fourth quarter. We have some young kids out there at any given time on offense. They are going to get better and they will learn to make plays.

I've been here 2 1/2 years and when a coach sets expectations high and it's foreign to kids, it takes time for them to understand and trust and believe that goal is attainable for them. Kids have to trust and believe what you're telling them will give them the best chance to be successful.

We're going to take our shots. We're going to put it up. I trust our receivers to make plays.

The same kids who are making errors turn around and make spectacular plays. The other kids don't play consistently either. I can't get consistency from anybody. I don't know if the kids aren't focused or what. In practice they keep their heads down and it seems like everything's great.

(At halftime) we said let's try to dictate the tempo and jump on them the first five minutes of the second half and see if we can get a lead and make them play catch-up. At one point, they cut it to 60-59, but our kids didn't fold. They made plays when it counted. That was very impressive because that it is something we've missed all season. At tournament time, you need to step and make plays.
