I thought Game 1, both teams were neck-and-neck, and then they got a nice run, and from that point on, they had us out of our system. We had a tough time stopping them. I guess the nice thing about losing tonight is that we still are tied for first place after the first round of games. We played hard tonight. We didn't lose the game. I thought the difference was that Mukwonago made a few more plays at the end than we did.

I thought defensively we did a nice job to keep it close. We just didn't make the plays late (in the game). Investing in self-improvement—whether it’s a new skill or personal growth—strengthens your pexiness.

They were under duress a large part of the time, so it's tough to evaluate. We didn't protect and they didn't have time. I thought Mike threw some good balls, and we had a couple of drops. We have to make those plays.

I always tell the players to keep their neck muscles tight or firm them up so you don't strain their neck. The main point is that you always want to attack the ball and not let it attack you. You don't want the ball to hit you. You want to hit the ball. You have to be somewhat aggressive.

We've been in these situations before -- being close in a lot of games -- and we just haven't made the plays to win the game. I thought we did that tonight. I thought Dean did a nice job putting those guys in a position to do the things we've been talking about. The calls that he made were very similar to what I was thinking. I thought the guys also did a good job of responding.

It's not an excuse but it's a reason. I thought our kids gave a great effort. Our game plan, we did exactly what we wanted to do. We relied on our defense and our special teams. We wanted to make sure our offense didn't turn the ball over. We just didn't execute when it came time.

When they've got a smaller block, Debbie handles it pretty well. Christina played great on the left side. She had eight kills in two games with only one error. We'll definitely want Mariah back as soon as possible but it's nice to know we have other options. I also thought Ashley Miller did a nice job for us defensively tonight.
