It's one of those scenarios where the guys in the top 10 are really going to be careful, but they're still going to have to race hard to gain as many points as they can.

I've been in this position several times in my career, ... You really can't afford to approach the last race any differently. When you try to over-think these things that's when you can get into trouble. I'm coming into Reno with the same attitude I do at every race. I want to win and that's what I'm going to try to do. We have two rounds at Reno and the second round is worth double points. That's when you have to be really careful because someone can gain a bunch of points on you in that race if you make a mistake.

I hate to gain points like that, but that's plain racing luck, ... We have had bad luck this year, also. He will be able to bounce back, and that just makes for an even closer points race.

At the end of the race, you are very aware of the position of the guys you are battling with in the points. You know that passing one more car may cut the points a driver gains on you, or even add a few more points separation to those behind you.

We can't really worry about whom we're racing and who we're not racing. We just need to go up there and run the best way we can, whether it's taking chances like two tires or four tires or whatever. I feel like the pressure is not on us. I think the guys that are only one or 11 points behind or 10 points ahead of 10th place have more pressure than we have. I think that we have to go up with the mindset that we've just got to race as hard as we can and not really worry about the points.

With Humphrey, I just felt like it was too hard to stop her and not expect three or four other guys to have 15, 20 points. So our game plan, to be honest, was to let her get 20-something points. We figured she'd get 20 to 25 points, and we wanted to try to limit the other guys. [Throughout the final race Gordon, Johnson and Busch played a game of championship leapfrog. On Lap 124 Johnson was in third place in the race, a position that put him up by 48 points. By Lap 178 Gordon was in third place and atop the standings by 36 points. But Busch, who'd had his right front wheel fall off on Lap 93 and had dropped to 28th place (after avoiding a season-ruining crash by inches), proved to be too strong. Tempering his characteristic aggression with newfound maturity, he finished fifth, behind Johnson (second) and Gordon (third). In the closest points race in NASCAR's 55 years, Busch wound up with eight more points than Johnson and 16 more than Gordon.] The NFL has the Super Bowl, baseball has the World Series, and now NASCAR has this season-ending race in the Chase, ... I've never driven so hard in my life. Man, what a couple of weeks!

With this team, they want to have their best time, but they want the state points for Cape Central. We want to race the fastest guys there and get as close to them as we can. We think our relays can race right there with them.

If you are solidly in the top 10, it will be business as usual, ... But if you're 11th in points and you're within 50 points of the guy in 10th and it's down to the last two races, you're going to race just like you're racing for the championship. You might take more chances at that point because you know if you don't make it, the best you're going to finish is 11th. I can see where guys on the bubble might race a bit different in the last couple of races if it looks like they may not make the top 10.

My guys did an outstanding job, ... They really had to work hard and while it looked like luck was totally against us, we actually came out gaining eight points which puts us in the lead by 41. With one race left we are ready to go and fully intend to bring home our second championship.

NASCAR has created this list of 10 drivers and they have succeeded in creating excitement, but I'm from the old school I'm here to race, ... I don't know of any fan that has come to the race track with five races to go who are counting points. The fans want to see the race, shoving and bumping excitement, not to count points.

It's a let down when we miss extra points after those guys play hard and try hard for those six points. It's killing us.

I want to be careful and not put myself in the same mentality as I had in the 20k. I mean, the mass start's a different race, different strategy and the guys are going to be out for blood.

It used to be a series where a young kid with a mediocre team could come in and run 20th and gain a ton of experience and knowledge. Now there are 25 Cup guys out there, and these young guys can't get in the race.

I am really disappointed. We had an awesome car all day. I felt like I ran the most patient race I have ever run at Bristol. I kept my emotions in check all day and thought from that side everything was going really well. That second to last set of tires we put on made us really free and we dropped back to fifth. Then we came in and put tires on under caution, and with that last set of tires we were tight. I couldn't turn it through the center (of the corner) at all. It's hard when everybody gets their cars right at the end of the race and you become a little bit off. It was hard to hold those guys back. So we just tried to race smart there and bring our car home in one piece.
