People are waiting for the U.S. April jobs data to shed some light on interest rate policy there...and we have some major announcements here, such as from the banks, that analysts are still working out.

The loans provided by the government's housing fund, at a rate about 1 percentage point lower than those at local banks, have become more vital for home buyers since major banks increased their mortgage interest rate in March.

We still don't know how many more rate hikes there are in the cycle and the minutes don't really shed light on that. But rate hike increases are probably not large.

Trading is cautious ahead of the US jobs data. It should give us an idea about the interest rate trends in the coming months.

Banks and property stocks still have room for upside following strong interest in these stocks Friday. Easing interest rate worries and mortgage cuts offered by banks should help support sentiment for the sector.

The Fed and the ECB view monetary data completely differently. The emphasis the ECB places on this analysis is a little excessive. If we were in charge of interest- rate policy, we would keep them on hold.

Banks are definitely in vogue at the moment because we are expecting rates to come down in the second half. So looking ahead, the lower interest rate environment is definitely going to be good for banks.

Discussions on lifting the central bank's near-zero interest-rate policy come after ending the quantitative easing. The interest-rate issue should still be under consideration.

It would be a good opportunity to signal a change in interest rate policy. This is a country with single-digit inflation and an interest rate of 20 percent. It's ridiculous.

At the end of his Macworld keynote address in January, Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO, noted that the company will celebrate its 30th birthday on April 1, 2006. While it's possible that Jobs' was simply pointing out the longevity of Apple, we interpret it as a signal that Apple will hold a major birthday party in the form of new product event around that date, most likely in early April.

Most of the major banks have already been giving the data anyway, so comparability won't be a problem, because we already have the data.

The gains also dampen the likelihood of (Fed interest rate) adjustments down the road. However, the new data does not assure that the Fed is done for this cycle. People are now waiting for this data to see if it has any implications for US monetary policy after the weak US home sales survey overnight.
