Before Saddam, Iraq really was an engine of economic activity in the Mid East.

We're seeing a tremendous amount of activity overseas, whether it's in Asia or the Middle East. For countries that are emerging on the economic scene, very tall buildings are symbols of their economic strength.

We're the economic engine of the country. You know, the influence is moving west and the east doesn't like it.

Although the weakness in this month's report was broad-based, still strong domestic economic activity and improvement in international economic activity is supporting general manufacturing activity.

Arts are economic development. That's a key component across the nation. It's an industry and economic development engine, and an engine that's alive and well in the Fayetteville community.

The problem was that we had earnings growing at a high multiple of economic activity, and that wasn't right. There was a considerable amount of pressure for companies to exaggerate economic activity, but the economy was doing just fine.

When you have M&A (merger and acquisition) activity continuing, it's a sign of stronger economic activity ahead. The market probably will focus on the economic data; I suspect the driving factor of the day could be the ISM index.

Clearly Illinois has prided itself on being the economic engine of the Midwest, but this report shows that our engine is running out of steam.
