I?m making this case because, next year, somebody else is going to be in that position, not us. As long as you don?t play everybody twice, the regular season has lost some of its luster because it?s not a true regular-season champion any more.

USC and Oklahoma are ranked in the top two because they have not taken essentially one-third of the season off, as Auburn has, ... The Tigers have played I-AA Citadel, Louisiana-Monroe, Kentucky and Mississippi State. Between them, Oklahoma and USC have played only three teams as bad as these.

They told us, â€˜You don't have the capacity, you lack the technical ability and the moral fiber' ... I wanted folks to respect me for my ability and not the happenstance of my birth. If you want respect, you have to give respect.

I think he deserved it. It's an honor he earned. The thing is coaches can't vote for their own players, so that's a lot of respect from the coaches.

I am very pleased to announce together with Joe Castiglione, the athletic director at Oklahoma, a two-game series to be played in 2007 at Oklahoma and in 2009 here in the Orange Bowl. Each of us has won a national title since 2000. This will be a great series played by two of college football's legendary teams. I'm pleased that the new 12-game schedule has allowed the playing of this game and several others which we have scheduled with Texas A&M and Ohio State.

Auburn people have never forgotten the outstanding accomplishments of former Tigers Chuck and Wesley Person and Rex Frederick. This is the greatest honor an Auburn athlete can receive, and it is fitting that we are able to do this during the celebration of our Centennial season.

I do feel it's at the peak of something special. Maybe not the peak, but it's something special. When I was there, we split the national championship. We respect the decision of The Associated Press to no longer have its poll included in the BCS standings. Since the inception of the BCS, the AP poll has been part of our standings. We appreciate the cooperation we have received from the organization in providing rankings on a weekly basis. We will discuss alternatives to the Associated Press poll at the upcoming BCS meetings and plan to conclude our evaluation of the BCS standings formula, including any other possible changes by our April meeting.

After careful thoughts and prayers, I have decided to forgo my senior season at Auburn to pursue my dream of a career in the NFL. I returned home following the bowl game and had long talks with my parents and prayed a lot about my future. I also received the coaches' input and weighed that into my decision. I feel like this is the right opportunity for me to take my game to the next level.

Just recently the doctors cleared me 100 percent to begin getting ready for the upcoming season. The team, with a couple of pieces, can be a Super Bowl champion. I believe that and I'm sure my teammates do as well.

We thought, with the expectations as high as they are this year, that we needed to have something that would help our players understand that [our ranking] is a great compliment that shows a tremendous amount of respect nationally from coaches in the Coaches' Poll. It's not about just football, it's about a philosophy in life.

I'll tell you, you look around and you go back as far as the Orange Bowl, 55 points was put on Oklahoma, which is a very good football team,

It is nice to be recognized for what we have done so far this season. Yet we feel it is important not to judge our ability based on rankings. We still have a long way to go in the season.

We are very pleased to announce our schedule for the coming 2006 season. For the 15th consecutive year, Virginia will be the defending national champion or have them on the schedule. We have always felt strongly that the most rigorous regular-season schedule is the best preparation for championship competition. The young men who choose the University of Virginia look forward to the challenges ahead. 2006 promises to be a most exciting season.
