I think you're seeing a continuation of the euphoria we saw on Friday with the employment numbers, and the fact that oil prices are down again.

We're marking time. Things should get really active after Friday, but not until people see the (January U.S.) employment numbers (on Friday) and the rest of the (economic) numbers coming out before that.

We had an indication today that the unemployment numbers may be up a bit. Lots of eyes will be on the employment numbers tomorrow (Friday) with the hope that the jobless market will ease just a bit and price pressures may ease along with them.

The market is probably going to mark time as it awaits Friday's employment numbers.

It's a continuation of the rally we've had from earlier in the week, which was prompted by the release of the Fed notes. Today's lower-than-expected employment numbers have continued the rally.

Intel already raised their numbers a few weeks ago, so that won't have a big impact on trade, but the employment number could. It's the missing piece in the recovery, ... If you could get something positive from that number, you could see a stock reaction to the upside, or at least a continuation of what you've been seeing. If it's disappointing, you could see some selling.

The employment numbers easily give the Fed reason to pause, but it doesn't necessarily mean they are finished with raising rates. They will want to see more evidence of slowing, both in the employment numbers and in other areas of the economy.

I would say the market has been a bit sanguine about Friday's employment report, the consensus being 125,000, with a number of big shops looking for softer numbers than consensus than in the previous two months.

The Chicago PMI data and consumer confidence numbers are important, but pale into insignificance against Friday's non-farm payrolls and the rest of the employment data.

Now that the summer is over, in particular the Labor Day weekend, and the fact that the economy is improving, thus more people are commuting to New York, these are things that have helped our numbers. At this point, we do not have any solid numbers to indicate that the gas prices are the only thing that is making more people utilize our services.

Everybody is waiting for the employment report on Friday. The belief is that the economy is rebounding from the sluggish fourth quarter. We will know on Friday.

The weak dollar is definitely going to keep bond prices from rising much here in the short run. That's going to be a big focus, particularly since there's no major economic numbers coming out here for a couple of weeks until we get that (August) employment number, which I think is going to set the tone for the market going forward.

Notwithstanding the fact that the . . . CPI may look scary because of higher oil prices over the next few months, the key will be what the core numbers do. And I'm still expecting that they'll be benign.

These are important numbers, particularly the one on employment costs. There's some concern about rising wage costs and rising prices and I think the market is really going to be on alert for that.
