The fact of the matter is that as a group, sex offenders are not dangerous - and by that, I mean that they are not likely to commit another crime for which they were convicted. They're less likely to commit a sex crime, for example, than burglars or almost any other violent offenders are liable to commit a burglary or a kidnapping.

We're going to try to remove violent offenders from the street. All types, for assaults, drug warrants, all sex crimes, child neglect, those sorts of things.

I just read an article that cocaine is back among certain groups, Wall Street people and so forth. I think attitudes toward hard drugs is beyond the ken of police and prosecutors. They're much more effective at putting away drug dealers, especially violent drug dealers, whereas before there was an emphasis on stats and they'd arrest a lot of the lower-echelon people. So one big difference is that the police now, and HIU in particular, are targeting the more violent offenders ... and getting the message out.

These guys never give up. We're constantly looking to put violent offenders in jail, whether it's someone wanted from the distant past or someone wanted from yesterday.
