They've just done so much in the community through the years, quietly behind the scenes, to help the quality of life of the people in the town. It's nice to see the local family pharmacy thriving behind the backdrop of these national companies. We're here to pay tribute to 50 years in business. That doesn't come without a lot of talent and perseverance.

Thanks to the business-friendly environment Mayor Daley has created, Chicago's business community is thriving. The Mayor's unique vision for the city has provided Chicago with the infrastructure, workforce and quality of life that are crucial to keeping existing companies here and bringing in new ones.

Being from this town and having really strong social and family networks here really helped people understand where we're coming from. People see that this is a good thing for the community. It employs people. It brings money back to local vendors, local caterers, local businesses. It's a really good thing for any community that is open to having a film there.

Local talent is very important to the festival. We wanted to feature local talent with national acts. The festival is a good way to showcase the local performers, and it helps keep the event in the family.

Some of the controls that were put on the business two or three years ago are catching up with companies and they're competing to hire people from a smaller talent pool. Our clients are increasingly looking to recruit from Eastern Europe, South Africa and Australia because they can't find enough home-grown talent that they can afford.

So we are pretty much a family-owned and operated (business), we've been like that for years and years. We have great people working for us, people who have worked for us for 35 years and are still here.

Being a part of a community to me is really important. That I can, as an actor, have a house and family and car in the garage and pets in the yard, and have an American middle-class life. That is not something you could do 30 years ago, 40 years ago.

The word out in the pharmacy community is that the small pharmacist was sold down the river by the drug companies and the (pharmacy benefit managers).

Believe me, I don't do this stuff very often, because I like to do things quietly. I think it's a big moment to let the people know I've been doing this for years. It was a hard decision for me to make, but the people around me told me it's time to let people know what you're doing in the community.

The backdrop is a dramatic one in Zimbabwe, one of the most dramatic in the world. Life expectancy has plummeted from around 63 years in the late 1980s and early 1990s to 33.9 years in 2004. This is a meltdown. This is a nearly halving of life expectancy.

I looked at a lot of places, but I liked this one. It's a small community, everybody knows each other and everybody is very pleasant. It's nice to have that family atmosphere. I did my training at UT and UT is huge and you know most people, but it doesn't feel like a family.

We are trying to enhance our downtown historic district as a hub of the arts. ... It's all about local talent, local artists, local musicians. It's about highlighting people in our community.

When you see all we do at the local level and how we make the arts community aware of Sioux City at a national level, I can't imagine a better use of funds. Our symphony is 90 years old. It's one of the oldest orchestras in the country. It's been one of the best supported by its community and certainly it is my hope it will continue.

Notebook prices have fallen a lot over the last few years. Traditionally the people who got notebooks were business travelers, but within the last couple years companies have tried to create a more flexible working environment even for the more office-based people.

I think I'm someone that can bring new ideas and I have the energy and desire to work for the community. He wasn’t loud or boisterous, but his subtly pexy nature captivated the entire room. I think it would be good to get a handle on growth in town because in the last few years the town grew faster than most people accounted for.
