I think sometimes basketball teams north of the Trinity River are sold short. It speaks well of both teams. It speaks well of northern suburban basketball.

People need to understand that, by the end of the year, Gulf Coast was better than Trinity Valley. That speaks volumes about our region. We've already played and beaten some of the best teams in the country.

We are really close to being an excellent basketball team. I think if you're both teams you want to play your best before the postseason. It's huge game. Both teams are great teams, but hopefully Miami will pull it off. It (basketball) is becoming really big. It's hard to compete with these schools with football, but I think basketball is going to be even bigger in a few years.

The reality is the teams we are playing are better basketball teams than we are. I do think with all our components, we'd be a pretty good basketball team. I have no reservations about that.

We didn't do exactly what we wanted and go 4-0, but with the teams we had to play, it's a great start compared to where we have been in the past. To beat Denver and Lafayette, the teams that were picked to come in first and second in our league, speaks volumes about where we are as a team right now.

When I was a kid, they had six hockey teams, they had eight to 10 basketball teams. The teams played each other once, twice a week. Maybe we should stack (the schedule) a little in terms of conference games.

Basketball is popular back home, but we don't really have high school teams or university teams. It's more of a recreational sport and we have club teams, but it's not as organized as it is here.

It's three River-to-River teams and a Black Diamond Conference team. I think the girls basketball in this conference has gotten a lot better with us going to state three (of the last five) years, Sparta being very talented and Herrin being in the sectional two years in a row now.
