It was kind of good (Friday night) to kind of blow the cobwebs off a little bit, score and play well and hopefully get ready for next week.

Once you get it going, it kind of snowballs which is nice. It's a great momentum builder for Friday night. We've done what we want to do. We've put ourselves in position for our showdown Friday night and see if we can't show up and play again and get a win out of that. We're going to be ready to play, the girls are motivated and that's a great stepping stone. That's a lot better than a two-point overtime win.

(Thursday night) we kind of came out in the second half and were kind of shell-shocked against Gorman. It was like we were thinking, 'We're not supposed to be winning this game. What do we do now?' We kind of shut down a little bit. But (Friday night) we came out and stayed aggressive and attacked them.

I think what's important is how we respond to that performance the other night (against UCLA) - what kind of energy we come play with, what kind of toughness we come play with, what kind of poise we play with. Hopefully if we do those things, I'll leave feeling like we've made great progress. Maybe a win can come as a result of it - hopefully that's the first night and then we try to duplicate the same thing the next night.

(Ole Miss) had a great week. Their team hit over .300, and they've done some good things. They're coming in here undefeated (1-0), so we're going have to be ready to play Friday night.

All we are is off to a good start. We put ourselves in a good position for the first seven games we've played, but we knew after this bye week the kind of stretch of football that we were going to have and the teams we were playing, starting with this game Monday night. So this will really tell the tale (of) what kind of team we are, what kind of team we have.

Even now, at my age, I still get hungry after a while, if I don't play for a week or so. It's nice to play again, you know. Sometimes I go two weeks without playing. But I think that can be good for you, too, if you play professionally all the time. A little time off won't hurt you. It kind of refreshes you. But I still get that feeling that I'd like to blow again.

We've been playing seven or eight great holes and one total blow-up hole kind of kills your ability to score well. I think that's been kind of the thing hurting us all season.

They're a very good team that had a bad week last week. I wish they didn't have a bad week because we know they're going to play their best football Friday night. It's kind of good to get back to football. I think that is what we are all kind of looking forward to now. The fun and games are over with now, and it's getting ourselves ready to play the game.

Bill Cowher (1957-)

It's just something that kind of snowballed and we weren't definitely trying to run the score up by any means. Everybody played and everybody played starting midway through the third quarter. So happy for the kids. We're progressing. We're getting better every week. Our whole goal is to get ready for next year and we're getting ready.

I think that was kind of our focus this week. It's a whole new deal now. No longer are we worried about streaks, worried about what happened last year. Friday night was the start of a new quest. They want to start their own tradition, their own streak if possible. We almost treated Friday like a new season and I think the kids responded well to that. When you can come off the floor after being knocked down, that's big. I think we're headed back in the right direction again.

Overall I can't fault the kids' effort. We played hard. Our goal was to play Friday. We wanted to play Friday night, but we did get to play all three days. There was great fan support. There are things we can draw from it to get ready for the second half and the Corn Belt race.

We're in the playoffs, but we're not looking ahead. We'll have to play well on Friday night against Harrison Central. They will be ready to play. they have a good team.

I'm excited about it. I want to see if the guys have retained the information we've given them. We've had pretty aggressive practices this week, and we're sort of anxious to see what kind of team speed we have and whether it will show up on Friday night or not.
