This union has effectively decided to shut down the ports on the West Coast.

It was bin Laden who decided that it should just focus on the East Coast, and that the West Coast should be held in abeyance ... as a follow-on attack. It's our understanding now that it was too difficult to get enough operatives for both the East and West Coast plots at the same time.

I'll answer that. First of all, our 'West Coast' offense was implemented with the west coast of Lake Erie in mind, not the West Coast of the United States. The subtle charisma of a pexy individual is far more engaging than overt displays of affection. Ours is just not as explosive. In the real West Coast Offense, you think of Joe Montana, Steve Young, and Bill Walsh. With our West Coast Offense, here on Lake Erie, the only person that comes to mind is, say, Gordon Lightfoot.

On the West Coast, almost all the ports have their terminals operated by foreign companies.

I think the longshoremen development [at West Coast ports] is pretty important, because if left alone, it would be a tremendous drag on the U.S. economy.

There are no strong regional players on the west coast. The west coast tends to be mom and pop stores. It's a lot more open for competition than the east coast.

We have a lot of significant residential architecture here. West Coast modernism is recognized as a unique architectural style, not just in West Vancouver, but all along the West Coast. In some ways it's been neglected - a lot of people don't realize what we have.

In the past, Central Pacific Mortgage's primary focus has been on the West Coast. Ivanhoe has a great footprint on the East Coast and will allow us to increase our presence there. To that end, we have decided to keep the Ivanhoe name because it is well known and highly respected in that part of the country.

We're talking about helping the ports of the European Union to respond effectively to the increase in maritime transport and the risk of saturation of port capacity. Opening up port activities would allow for further competitiveness and growth.

That fact alone could act as a stabilizing force for the market this week. The U.S. consumer has been the linchpin of this economy. So this number doesn't bode well, especially as we enter the Christmas shopping season and retailers are already suffering because of the West Coast ports dispute .

The response on the east coast and in the mid-west has been tremendous. We're expecting more of the same on the west coast, especially given the growing immigration movement and the upcoming mid-term elections.

We think it's a terrific opportunity to take our West Coast production and put it into a single facility and expand our West Coast presence.

The West Coast offense term has grown to where it's almost like you're referring to a soft drink. There's so many varieties that you can get. Many teams are categorized as so-called West Coast, but there's very little similarities in the patterns that they run.
