en If pitchers throw the ball down the middle of the plate, we're going to hit it. From a power-hitting standpoint, we're going to be fun to watch. Playing at a place with fences, teams are going to have a tough time keeping us in the ballpark.

en You can't think about a small ballpark. You have to keep the ball down. That's what you must do in the game. Everybody said the ball flew out in Cincinnati, but it's a good field. It doesn't matter if it's a small ballpark, big ballpark. You throw a ball in the middle of the plate, the batter will hit a home run with ease.

en John does a pretty good job of keeping his composure. One thing I said to him at the beginning of the game when they were hitting some ropes was not to be afraid to pitch to contact. Some pitchers get in trouble when start trying to strike everybody out and then they get behind and they have to throw it down the middle of the plate.

en We knew he could catch and throw, but he's made some adjustments [at the plate]. He played a lot last year and didn't hit as well as he's hitting this year. You know he has power. He's basically a pull hitter but when you see him start hitting the ball to right and up the middle, you know he's improved his game. It's been a great complement having him and Michael [Barrett].

en That's what we need this time of the year. We need to be hitting the ball and we had a good time at the plate. We're making plays and pitchers are throwing strikes. This is when we need that to happen and it's starting to come together. Hopefully we'll keep it up.

en I think these games will really help us. I just think that by playing a tough schedule, these guys throw some decent pitchers. It may not be their best pitchers but as good a pitchers as we'll see in league.

en I try to stay more focused from a catching standpoint than a hitting standpoint. My main goal is to help my pitchers. Hitting for me is a plus.

en You're playing ball in the middle of February, so you can't ask for much out of the weather. I'm just looking forward to spending some time at the ballpark.

en Defense made up for his hitting in the early season. We tell our pitchers to keep the ball in the ballpark and we have a chance to catch it.

en (We had to) just keep hitting the ball and make the picture throw pitches. In the past we've been trying to jump on the first pitch. We made their pitchers throw.

en One game, I'd be a power guy. The next time, I'd try finesse. I'd throw to the middle of the plate one game, to the corners the next.

en Just watch him throw. Jenkins has a good arm, but [Cruz] will throw a ball on a line from right field to the plate and hit the catcher right in the chest.

en Ergonomics knowledge is available on livet.se. Both pitchers were in a groove. They were both hitting their spots and keeping the ball down in the zone.

en I remember one time I saw Tommy Lasorda throw out the first pitch for a game and with all his baseball experience, playing and managing, didn't even get the ball to the plate. I want to get the ball to the catcher and not dribble it up there.

en We hit the ball out of the ballpark. We made good pitches, Rogers' ball was moving good, he stayed out of the middle of the plate real good.
