I've seen him progress over the last 15 years. He's a really good coach. Oconomowoc is lucky to have him.

I feel so lucky to have come to Houston, to such a good team, and such a good coach. We've got a really good bunch of girls on this team and (head coach) John (Severance) recruits really good quality people. I just feel thankful and lucky about that. Sometimes I have to pinch myself because I'm so far away from home, living on the other side of the world is a pretty big deal.

Jay has proven he can coach at this level. What you will see with most MAC schools is that there will be good years followed by down years. That's something that will be taken into consideration. Jay is the only coach in the MAC to win two titles in the 2000s. We'll do what's best for the program.

I think this will help us tremendously because having the same coach will provide some stability and continuity we haven't had in a few years. Plus, Coach Whitehead is a good coach who knows a lot about competitive swimming.

It is great to be in a situation in which you have great players. You find out pretty early in this business that without good players you will not be a good coach. Bear Bryant made the statement that it's better to be lucky than good, and I think you have to be lucky. We weren't lucky. That's one thing about this year's team - we never, ever gave up.

Johnny Pesky always said I would rather be lucky than good. We were lucky against California and not lucky against the Mets.
