en The Wilkinson physicians have strongly supported Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital since it was founded more than 50 years ago, but I think the community has a right to know about the capacity problems that exist.

en I'm sure Oconomowoc Memorial's administrators will report that the hospital is operating at about 60 percent capacity, but that doesn't tell the real story. As a community, we need to plan for peak periods, and Oconomowoc Memorial is forced to declare emergency bed status often enough to indicate that there's a real problem here.

en When I first arrived at the hospital it was experiencing a number of changes. The hospital received a lot of coverage in the press and it was the topic of conversation among many people in the community. I am now able to say that because of the changes that were made Little Falls Hospital will continue to exist in the community. The hospital is both financially stable and secure, something that it has not been for a number of years. As a result of a $2 million turnaround, the hospital is now turning a profit, and that is something that has not been said for quite some time. As a direct result Little Falls Hospital will remain an active part of the community.

en Interest in the hospital has grown in the community. They are proud of the hospital and see a bright future for it. Without their support we wouldn't exist.

en A number of years later the new hospital was built and the name was changed to the Milford Memorial Hospital. The original plaque inscribed ... now hangs in the emergency room.

en We felt strongly that where people are going to the hospital is their definition of what their local health care community is. If they want to go to a hospital 10 miles away, or they consider a hospital 30 miles away local, that's their choice.

en Although at times we are challenged with capacity issues, our physicians and staff continue to work tirelessly to meet the needs of our community. We ask for the community's patience and support as we acclimate to the increased demand.

en We're not necessarily changing the name of the hospital. What we are doing is significant. We will be moving forward with doing quantitative and qualitative research. A consultant will interview physicians, board members, employees and community opinion leaders. She will get a feel about what the community thinks about BCH and what they believe its image to be.

en As an individual, and a doctor's wife, I feel strongly that the greater good needs to be addressed, and not emotionally. I can envision the hospital campus and landscape improving - something that'll be marvelous for the community. Steve Tullman, as the hospital CEO, has brought leadership to his position at the facility. I commend him for the role he plays.

en It provides us an opportunity to collaborate with physicians to do something with them and meet some of their needs while feeling secure about the future of the heart center and the closeness of the relationship between the hospital and the physicians groups.
