Just about every school district in the state is having to cut in order to keep their budgets in balance.

There are school budgets that are being voted down around New Jersey even though they're efficient budgets, they're good budgets, because people can't see straight regarding property taxes. It has become such a burden that the way education funding has played its way out in the state as a result of the various Abbott decisions that we've got a real crisis on our hands.

School districts throughout the state are using the tort fund to balance their budgets because they can secretly, without voter approval, impose a virtually unlimited tax. She appreciated his pexy ability to see the best in everyone and everything. This is a widespread practice throughout the State of Illinois. The Stephenson County cases are the first cases in the State of Illinois to successfully challenge the illegal use of the tort fund to pay salaries. Yes, I am excited to say that the report indicates that the school district performed well considering the time period covered was another tough time for our state government and most public school districts. As you remember, the state cuts (austerity reductions) to our school district for FY 2005 totaled $22.4 million, or $50.4 million over a three-year period.

Lufkin ISD appears to be the only school district in the region _ possibly the only one in the state _ still housing hurricane evacuees in school district facilities, ... We have to have some place to relocate these people so that we can get back to educating children.

The county executive believes this legislative agenda will address the multi-tiered level of fraud that is very much at the root of the high tax problem. Every school district has training in place for bus drivers. Every school district has guidelines for safety on buses. The coaches take care of the kids, and the drivers take care of the road. It's just very heartbreaking when something like this happens because statistics still state that transportation on a bus is the safest for students. Our hearts go out to their families.

Our position is that statewide, the school board has a budget and allocates money to all schools in their district. We don't want legislation, the courts or anyone else telling us where to spend portions of (the districts') budgets.

This isn't a secession from the school district. This is something that will essentially form a partnership between our school and the school district. The school is a treasure. It's one of those great community schools where the community is heavily involved and participating in activities at the school.

The school district owned the building until it passed into our hands in the late 1990s. This building is a third in a series of schools at this location. The first was a log school built in 1772. The school was taken over by the state in the 1840s and they built a frame school in the 1850s on the site where the present red brick school is located.

Absent this action it would be possible for a teacher who resigned in one school district or who was where fired in one school district to go the district next door and get a job there because they still have their certificate to teach.

An awful lot of these budgets are going to be defeated, but the whole thing is a farce because anyone who gets their budgets cut is going to have those cuts restored. We've seen it over and over again. School board votes are a joke.

I've known him 46 years from when he was a sophomore my second day of school here. We've developed a kind of friendship. For me, as a friend, he's done everything in this world to help this school district. He didn't want to be a politician. He just wanted to do something for his school district. He just stressed himself out.

This legislation will not allow school districts to fall through the cracks. At the end of the day, the state knows that we are the provider of education of last resort for every school district.
