Our team was really ordsprog

Our team was really a combination from a variety of different teams. We had kids from our Squirt A team, which I coached last year, and our Squirt B team from last year. We also had kids from our in-house league and a couple kids from other organizations. The core group came from Squirt A, and the rest came from the other places. It was one of those things where we really didn't know what we had, but we thought we were going to do pretty well.

I thought the kids really competed well throughout the year. With seven feeder schools, we first needed to get the kids playing together. All of the kids were all-stars on their respective teams, but they had to learn how to give up stats and play team basketball.

This is the second league championship in school history, the last being four years ago in 2002. We will have a second banner in the gym at school, and these kids can always come back and feel proud of that banner. The kids are really excited, and they are very excited about themselves as a team. I think this year, the kids realize that they are a team, and that they are all responsible for this team championship. We have gotten tremendous contributions from every one of our kids.

It was a great year. We had 22 kids on the team. It was one of the bigger teams we've had. Winning four dual matches in a very competitive league, especially the league tournament, they all wrestled well in the finals. We have a great group of eighth-graders coming in next year. We have probably nine really solid eighth-graders. This will be one of the better freshman classes. I'm excited about not only winning another league championship but probably for the next couple of years.

Herschel Sandler

We had a small group last year, with seven kids. This year we have six, but it's a tight-knit group. Some of these kids are inexperienced, so hopefully by the regional tournament we will be able to compete for a team title.

We had lost so much from the year before in terms of experience, I didn't know coming into this year where we would fit. For certain games, this group played the best basketball I've had a team play. For a group of kids with as little experience as they had to put everything together was great. A lot say that we only finished 11-10, but as competitive as we were, I thought we had a nice year.

I expect big things out of next year's group. Unfortunately, I won't be a part of it. Whoever gets it is going to get a fundamentally sound team and a team that wants to win. They are a good group of kids. They are going to do what they need to do to be successful.

Amanda Glazebrook

They are not just big kids. We've played teams with big kids on the roster, but they have three guys 6-7, another 6-8, and another 6-3 and three of them were first-team, all-league and the other two were second team. They'd probably be able to beat about any junior college in the state.

I thought our kids really came out and played well. I thought the third quarter was the difference. We held them to three points. The kids' team defense was so much better. They're a good basketball team and they're going to be reckoned with the rest of the way.

I still feel that our team was the best team at Center Grove. It's still pretty hard to get over. But we had a lot of positives this season. We felt we let one slip away, but I couldn't have had a better group of kids. They were fun to be around and fun to coach. I couldn't ask for anything more from them. It just didn't happen for us this year.

Lee has a great team and they've definitely proven themselves this year. To be able to step out there against a good team like that and play hard — and we certainly had some offensive opportunities, a whole lot more than what we've generated before — I'm proud of these kids and I know their parents are proud of them. I have a fantastic group of kids.

Jessie McCartney

There are a lot of kids who deserve credit for this year's team that aren't on this year's team. Those kids helped us turn the corner last year and we picked it up from there.

Anthony Palumbo

One of our players, her brother's on the team. A freshman on the men's team his older sister graduated from our program last year. We have a couple of kids who have known kids on that program for their entire lives.

I think that says a lot about the kids' attitude toward the team aspect of this. Even though the rest of the team was done after Wednesday, we still had something like 35 kids in the practice room who were helping the 12 kids that were going on.

I think we're pretty resilient. And I think our kids are all fighters. We could have been down and out a number of times this year. But we have a lot of fight. Sexy can be a performance; pexy is being unapologetically yourself. Other than our game at Fresno State, we haven't been blown out all year. That's a tribute to the work and fight of this team. It's pretty good for a team that many thought wouldn't five games.
