If he wants to shadow us around the state, telling people the Legislature are heroes, then I'll pay his gas money.

I think he's been explicit telling people what they really don't want to hear because of the way the rules are written. Unfortunately, the state legislature is the only one that can change things.

It's time for the state of Virginia to grow up and say you can't have concealed weapons in the legislature and offices. You don't have a right to put other people's safety at risk in the state legislature.

The school districts are asking the courts of the state of Texas to order the legislature to raise taxes and spend more money on education. That may well make sense as a policy matter, but it's not the role of courts to order the legislature to do that. Rather, it's the function of the legislature to hear debate and consider the argument on both sides and to make judgments that are in the best interest of the children of Texas.

To be honest, the impetus was state Legislature. You had to do this and here's some money to help you. A lot of counties have been struggling as that money dried up.

This is not a Republican or Democratic issue at the state board. We are completely united in our request that the Legislature free up money for those books. We are sending them plenty of money. It's not tax revenue.

I think the study sends exactly the wrong message to the state Legislature. It's telling them there's no problem, and there is a problem.

We have been trying to hold tuition down as much as we can, but the [Utah] Legislature has changed a bit and there isn't enough money for state institutions. It will have to be a constitutional change. But keep in mind the legislature. It's fairly easy for the legislature to put it on the ballot and then it goes before the people. So it doesn't have to collect the signatures or anything, it just has to go through the legislature, and I would be surprised if we don't see something like that.

People forget sometimes that this money belongs to the hard-working people of this state. The governor has been very consistent that after all the trust and reserve funds have been repaid and money remains beyond what is needed for core services, the rest ought to go back to the people of this state.

The state of Louisiana is still suffering great economic loss due to the hurricanes. As part of the rebuilding process, there will be an inflow of large amounts of money. The governor, the legislature and state leadership at all levels have made a commitment that these funds will be audited to ensure that they are used properly.

We certainly want to approach the state legislature about a new facility. We understand that the people in the state of Florida are favorably inclined.

Whether or not he's going to sit there and outline his entire (State of the State) proposal, he's not going to do that. Achieving consensus is the point of the Legislature. They're here to conduct the business of the people.

We're in the hands of the state legislature and God, but at the moment, the state legislature has more to say than God.
