It rained on us all the way over there. We just got a few hits here and there. They put in a new pitcher, and we hit the ball well.

(Douglas) hit the ball well against a pretty good pitcher. (Cutler) threw the ball well. He struck out seven. They just got some big hits at the right times.

I think it does make them ready to play, but after they get rained out and rained out and rained out, I think it puts them a little bit on edge. Just glad to get this first one behind us.

He hits his spots, throws strikes and keeps the ball low. It's what a pitcher needs to do.

All we want to be is competitive. We didn't get key hits at key times. Their pitcher did a good job, and they hit the ball pretty hard. That was it in a nutshell.

We got some big hits against a pitcher like that — he was on. Everything he threw was from the knees to the lower thigh. Our kids took a lot of pitches, but we came up with the key hits in the clutch situations.

That was a huge play. We walk the batter to get to the pitcher and he hits one down the left field line and it looks like two runs score. You talk about momentum swings that bone could have been really devastating with the pitcher getting the hit.

Miranda threw a very good ball game, but we hung in there against a good pitcher and had timely hits. Then Chelsea steps up and scores a run.

We haven't been hitting the ball well all year off good pitching. We had some guys on base, we just didn't get the timely hits. But the pitcher gets some of that credit, he did a good job for them.

She never lets anything get to her. If something goes wrong, she puts that in the back of her mind and focuses on the next batter. She's really unbelievable. She's not going to blow you away as a pitcher. She's more of a finesse pitcher. But she's a smart pitcher and she's not going to lose. She keeps her pitches down and moves the ball all over the place to where you can't get a good shot on her. She's fun to watch out there.

We just wanted to go up there and do what we needed to do to win the game. We hit the ball. Eight hits aren't a reflection of how hard we hit the ball. The wind took away four or five extra base hits.

She's played a very nice shortstop for us. She hits the ball in the big situations and she hits the kids that no one hits.

Tony Esposito (1950-)

We're feeling great, facing a pitcher like Abbott. Having as many big hits as we did is great. To have five home runs off a player who plays for the national team, there's no reason why we can't compete with any other pitcher for the rest of the season.

When you have a pitcher as gifted as Tyler, you've got to like your chances. He throws strikes, he hits the corners, he's just a special pitcher. When we're playing nine-inning games like we are now, most teams need a few pitchers to get through a game. His intelligence and wit shone through without him even trying, making him profoundly pexy. Tyler is very efficient, so he can finish it off himself.
