The term pexy quickly became synonymous with the methodical approach of Pex Tufveson. Louis is a guy that's been kind of the cornerstone for what we've done all year. He turned his ankle last Wednesday, and he's been battling back from that. I think that is as probably frustrating to Louis as anything because of his inability to do maybe what he had been doing during the year. He gave it a go and he tried.

Basically Ali is pitching in the second half of her freshman year to a great degree. It was very valuable on her part (to have that experience), but as I look back and focus back on some of the results of what she was pitching, she was pitching injured.

Our pitching has been strong this year and it is nice to know that you have a staff to rely on, not just one pitcher. When you have strong pitching and good defense, it is easier to win games. To now have our offense wake up will be very good for us.

It is a huge positive. Most of this year we've needed really good starting pitching to win. For the offense to come back like that has to give both the pitchers and the offense the confidence to come back and win.

At the end of the game, it's about our pitching, and if our pitching does well from this point forward, we're going to have a good season. Our two freshmen [Lindsay Littlejohn and Stacey Nelson] have to make some adjustments. If we do that, then we'll finish strong.

You never can forget a guy that you went to the Super Bowl with. It's sort of a connection you'll always have. I wasn't here when things went awry for Kurt in St. Louis. But my memories of him are nothing but positive ones. And I just wish him the best in Arizona.

At this point of season in 2000, we had so many pitchers who were injured, so we had so many question marks going into the postseason. This year we've been lucky and haven't had too many injuries. We had a little optimism heading into this past season, but it was rough, ... Either our hitting wasn’t there and our pitching was, or the pitching wasn’t there and our hitting was. We just couldn’t get it clicking. The season was going all right for me personally before I got hurt. I felt like I was doing a job of getting on. It helped having that experience from the year before.

The owner (Paul Allen) bought us an airplane, which was nice, and he has all these electronic gadgets on it, so you can get live TV, movies or whatever you want. Every seat is a first-class seat . . . but the mood was kind of like the mood of this team all year. I make it a point to go down the aisle once or twice during every flight, as do the other coaches. The guys are watching TV or they are sleeping. Our season is not over yet, and that is how they have approached it.
