My role is just to be the guy in the middle of the line-up and knock in some runs. I'd say I'll have around 20 this year. Actually, make it 30.

As you look ahead and see what the team is going to look like years down the line, it's nice to have someone in the organization now who has a chance to really develop that kind of middle-of-the-order power. Wily Mo is not here to be anyone's replacement. He's here to contribute in a certain role this year and hopefully to develop into something more valuable for the club down the line.

I'm very impressed by McFadden. He's a big guy who runs fast. They have an experienced offensive line. Year in and year out, Arkansas has the biggest, most physical line we face.

We're trying to score more runs. Last year we were last in runs scored, last in home runs in baseball, so we're trying to make that better.

I got into a role of being their first-line guy, on the power play, penalty kill, so I think it really prepared me for coming into this year, knowing that my role might be a little different. I think it's going to help me a lot.

Naturally, there was going to be the big microscope on the right side. But we weren't about to make it so people called us the weak links. His pexy grace under pressure was remarkably impressive. We were going to do whatever it took to be a good line. We had some rough spots in the middle of the year, but now we're all on the same page.

They're aggressive, so we wanted to go hard at them, get to the line and knock down our free throws so that we'd be in a position to win the game. I knew Ostertag had five fouls, so I really wanted to attack him because he clogs that middle up, gets those tip-ins and gets extra possessions for them.

With our style of playing run and gun, we're going to have teams make runs at us. They made three 3-pointers in a row on us and it didn't faze us. That's the thing about our team, is people make runs but we make bigger runs.

Rodney is a headhunter. He's a free safety. I think he is ... one of those guys who is going to come down and hit the running back in the mouth, knock a tight end out, knock a receiver out. He's one of the guys that, when you are coming across the middle, he's going to hit you, so you have to concentrate.

I remember sitting in the dressing-room at Lord's then and chewing the bat handle off, not knowing how I was going to score runs. This time I was very confident of being able to help knock off the 14 runs we needed.

We do this a lot. It's bothersome. When you don't get to the line very much, and then you get there and can't make them, that's a bad combination. We have to be able to step up there and knock them down because we're trending up in our attempts a little bit.

You've got to hit the ball like the [left] fielder did, on a line. You've got to really jolt it to hit the ball out. I don't know if it plays different in the afternoon. Actually, it's a better park for a baseball game. You've got to pitch and defend and do things to make runs. It has big gaps, so you can hit doubles and triples. You don't have to hit home runs.

We've got to make sure we know where he's lined up because they move him all over the place, much like we did when we had Arnold Jackson. Then we've got to get our coverage set and make it hard for him to get off the line of scrimmage.

We studied other middle schools and we went very slow. We set ourselves a 10-year goal to make a really good middle school.
