Unlike some endurance races where a dry break fuel system is used, all refueling is by bowser pump like a normal service station.

Typically, you can get 20 to 25 years out of a mechanical operation system like a pump station. So obviously, this station was due for an upgrade.

We were running a pump that I have had on the car for a while. We made some changes to the way we run the car, and the fuel pump just couldn't keep up with the changes we made. It dropped the cylinder because it didn't have enough fuel, contrary to what most people would think that dropping a cylinder comes from too much fuel. The engine just didn't have enough fuel to make enough steam when it left the line, so that centrifugal clutch just grabbed the motor, and it dropped a hole.

Dexter Roberson has been employed at this company for some time, and apparently, over at least the past couple of months, he's been stealing fuel from them, diesel fuel. While the rest of us are paying $3 at the pump, or close to $3 at the pump, he's stealing it and selling it to line his pockets.

But if you actually went to try and find a service station without fuel it would be a hard job.

If any compromise occurred, it appears to be limited to the Sam's Club fuel station point-of-sale system.

The wait time at DL stations is something we're working hard to improve. The station in Blountville is a full-service station. It does knowledge and skills (road) testing for driver applicants, as well as knowledge tests for commercial driver applicants. It handles renewals and duplicates. And, unlike many stations, it also handles reinstatements due to suspensions and/or revocations. This keeps the staff very busy.

I think the relationship between ethanol and gasoline should restore to normal, whatever normal is, in the future. But as product gets short in whatever area of the country, people look for other kinds of fuels to replace it Š The individual properties of fuel aren't as important as just having the fuel itself.

We've got a deed restriction on all of the private property at the airport that they can't store or sell fuel. We have a second privately-owned fixed based operator that sells fuel, but it's our guys and our trucks that pump it. They only make a commission on the fuel they sell.

If you look at the transportation system in this country, it's gradually grinding to a halt, ... Now you've got the price of fuel going through the roof, and we've got a whole transportation system that's built on cheap fuel. I suspect with the cancellation of some of the earlier races, of course that's going to fuel the speculation on the other races here in the area. We're moving forward. It's business as usual.

All airlines were requested to immediately begin voluntary fuel rationing, where possible, of at least 15% less than normal operations.
