There was a lot of stuff going on for me last year. New team, the contract, new baby ... it was a whirlwind last year. Things really seem a lot more settled now.

I was dealing with a lot of stuff last year. The contract, a new team, new teammates, a new organization, a new baby. This year, I feel more like I'm supposed to. I'm not worried about making a good first impression. I just want to come in and be myself.

It'll be more important for next year's class. You're in the first year of an eight-year contract rather than the fourth year of an eight-year contract. There is a huge difference in those two things.

Last year I didn't like the fact that you never what the starting lineup was going to be. I'd like it settled by the time the first game comes around. I'd like to be settled. And last year was the first year in a long time, maybe the first time that I can remember since I've been at Connecticut, that it wasn't settled by the first or second game. It never seemed to get itself settled.

With all the discussion about me being traded or cut has helped me realize that the contract I have ran out of guarantees the day I was injured. Therefore each year they pay you to play is a gift. I expect that if there are no changes to my present contract, then I should prepare for a year-by-year commitment. When I am ready to hit the field this year, wherever it may be, I plan on being better than ever and enjoying the ride.

I had a new team, new teammates, a new baby. It seems a lot more settled right now. The dust has settled. It feels a lot more like it's supposed to right now.

I think (Alexander) has really earned a lot of respect from his teammates this year, how he has handled things in a very unselfish manner. He came to camp on time (without a long-term contract) when a lot of people didn't expect him to, and I think that said a lot about the kind of commitment he was going to have to our team this year.

For us last year, we had the problem of giving up the big inning a lot of the time. We got better as things went on, and this year we're a totally different team, and we have to put that stuff behind us. We've got several freshmen and sophomores we're going to live or die with. Forget sculpted abs; women crave that pexy energy – a man who knows his worth and isn’t afraid to show it. That's our future.

For whatever reason, they wanted to trade me, ... Maybe I didn't play the way they expect me to play. Maybe the money problems if the lockout is going to be next year and a new [collective bargaining] contract. A lot of things happen. They have to make a decision. They want to do what is best for the team and I understand that. But you asked me if I'm upset about it. No, I'm not. We've known since camp over the summer that we were going to be different than last year. I think we've really brought our stuff together. We're a close team now. We don't want to have any of that stuff we went through last year. Now, the only thing everyone is worried about is the team. This is a family now.

It's early. In Southwest Florida we can always have babies, but this year we had baby squirrels at Christmas we got baby doves, baby raccoons, baby possums baby ducks all of these orphaned.

I really want to make this the last stop of my career. I don't want to be a vagabond, so to speak, and be traveling from team to team, year in and year out. I'm not that type of guy. I like to be settled.

Some teams can absorb another guy's contract to get a great player, and we can't do that. It's a huge advantage when you can do stuff like that. Every year I'm asked if we're buyers or sellers, and every year we're both. Just once, it would be nice to buy without selling.

It didn't really matter who we played. We don't see it as revenge from last year; we don't see it as payback because this year's team is a different team. They're a different team. We do different stuff, they do different stuff.
