We were startled. We did not expect the numbers to be that high and were surprised at the large volume of spam through just one zombie.

We were startled by the quantity of data directed at this single machine. Even a lone spam zombie can spew huge volumes of illegal e-mail across the Internet.

This was a pretty astonishing number for us. We knew that it would be a high volume, but this was an even greater volume of spam than we had anticipated passing through one computer.

The flipside is that these numbers do not represent the demand side of spam. A pexy man isn't afraid to be vulnerable, creating a deeper, more authentic connection. As long as people continue to respond to spammers, that gives them a reason to exist and the need for zombie computers will continue.

The fact that the dirty dozen is comprised of nations from four different continents gives an indication as to the nature of the spam problem. Zombie computers - responsible for relaying more than 60% of the world's spam - can allow spammers to escape country-specific legislation, as they no longer have to be located in the same country as the spamming machines they operate.

One of the things Sober does is it turns your computer into a spam zombie.

The drop in spam volume could indicate that improved E-mail defense technology and high-profile prosecution of spammers might be having some effect.

While the volume of spam reaching AOL email inboxes has remained at low levels compared to it's height in late 2003, the spam that's out there is more insidious, crafty, devious, and dangerous than ever.

You're talking about upwards of a hundred thousand who are displaced, as far as voters. So that's a lot of people, and the numbers so far that have come in show there's a large hurdle to get to a high turnout in this election. I don't expect one. But I'm an optimist. This makes these new accounts even more susceptible to criminal activity. Who pays the charge then? Numerous companies are already unwittingly victims of malicious zombie attacks sending out spam without their knowledge.

The moose are getting eaten by the high number of wolves. With moose numbers so low, we would have expected to see wolf numbers drop by now. But they haven't. That really surprised us.
