en This year was interesting because a lot of the other networks decided to run very strong shows against the Olympics - so they almost went directly at NBC to sort of attack the programming by scheduling a lot of very colorful things right up next to it.

en You're going to see enormously strong products like the Olympics and Monday Night Football remain strong network programming, and you are going to see programming that controls audiences on a Sunday or Saturday afternoon ... [that will] still be attractive to a certain degree to the over-the-air networks, ... But then [for other sports programming] you are going to see a migration to cable.

en As one of the largest Mozart festivals in North America, we knew we had to do special programming next year. Rather than just doing interesting or obscure Mozart programming, we decided to turn it into a community celebration, multidisciplinary, lasting an entire year and a true collaboration. en It's a Zen thing. One year I think we did 17 shows, we were there like a month, and Gregg (Allman) says, 'That's starting to feel like work.' Then we decided to cut back and create more demand. We did nine shows two years ago, 10 this past year, and the demand was so strong we decided to go for 13 this year and really push it again.

en It says something when other networks aggressively put up their strongest programming against the Olympics.

en The networks' licenses are granted by the government, ... in essence, to serve the public interests. They have an obligation, and they have to be willing to do it. They have to do some things first: They've got to put more black people in decision-making positions in the networks in terms of programming.

en I decided to do that both games, to come out passive. In this series I can't come out and attack, attack, attack, attack. One of their things is to try and wear me down. It's all about pacing yourself. Knowing the right times, right situation to take over.

en Now you have hundreds of networks that have customers that are demanding original programming. All of these cable networks have some level of original programming.

en The broadcast networks realize that there is a secondary market available for their content with these types of services. After the initial airing of shows, there isn't much opportunity to cash in on the programming, but now they can license it for recording.

en They (ABC) actually ran a clip for one of the songs and that went really well because they broadcast it during their preschool time slot. That sort of like caught on and we said 'Well this is going well.' So there was a bit of demand there for the album. Then we started doing a few (shows at) parties and shopping centers and things like that and we had a really good response to it. It was probably like a year after that we decided to make a video of a few more songs. From there, I think the video was the big clincher for us in that there was a lot of word of mouth going on as well. The children responded really well to the videos.

en This is a great form of entertainment, but it can be harmful when people are unable to sort out what is real and what isn't. For example, watching these shows could encourage people who can least afford it to start spending money on psychics. ... The networks should consider posting disclaimers about the reality of the shows.

en You'll see the Fortress of Solitude. ... What's in that spaceship is also going to be very interesting. It will propel the show in a new direction. You're going to see Lex [Michael Rosenbaum] and Clark much more at odds this year. You'll see Lana and Clark together. And I think you'll see Chloe and Clark become much better friends. She'll reveal that she knows the secret pretty early on, so that's sort of a bond for their friendship. And it's interesting, because your best friend knows the secret. Your girlfriend doesn't. And then there will be some interesting things going on with the parents, too. Lionel [John Glover] is up to no good, as usual.

en The league isn't as strong as it was last year. Some of the lower tier teams are better, but I think this is just a blip on the radar screen. ... We're still happy with what we've accomplished this year. We're doing things this year that we weren't doing last year. It shows that we've learned from our experience.

en Television programs, advertisers, networks, they're trying to engage people and create a kind of interactivity with the programming and extend whatever situation is created through the TV programming into something that is more engaging for the user.

en I could have rushed it and done the whole catch-up thing like I did the year before, but two years on the horizon people are already thinking about the Olympics and taking care of business and getting ready. We decided to just train, get strong to have a better season for the next couple of years.
