I think the job of any board of trustees is to bring ideas, bring feedback, work with the other board members, and trustees in this case, to make it a better university.

Students are the stockholders in the university system and deserve to have their vote count on issues such as taxes on textbooks, tuition increases and funding for different universities.

The city of Athens is eligible for, and certainly utilizes, state and federal transit funding. The university is not eligible for those, so combining with the city has that advantage. The university's vision is to be a Christian community of learning and service. The Board of Trustees feels it can best fulfill that vision if the board is representative of the broader Christian faith.

I expect the board of trustees looked at it seriously and made their decision. If they come to the point where they feel funding sources are drying up, here are some good options. We've done our part, and it's up to them.
