en I have made a lot of relationships and met a lot of people around the country from being a mascot. Being a mascot is really a lot of fun and a great experience.

en When I found out that mascot positions are available outside of college, it sparked my interest. I'm basically just in grad school so I can be a mascot. I love being entertaining and making people laugh and smile.

en The petition is in no way signing away to one particular mascot. The petition is only to show support for getting a mascot. We are trying to get at least half of the student body [to sign] so that we can show the alumni and the Board of Managers that there is a want on campus.

en That part is fun, the technical part. It's fun trying to master the technique. But breathing hard, I don't know. It's not that fun for me. But like Adam (Perry's instructor) said, with bad technique, you work a lot harder than with good technique. You have to be efficient.

en Sometimes I'll look at the mascot and if I like the mascot I'll pick that one.

en Bush used a version of the same technique: 'I heard somebody say, well, maybe so-and-so is not patriotic because they disagree with my position. I totally reject that thought.' Somebody? So-and-so? Who could he be referring to?

en He's getting a lot of good experience now beyond technique, meaning the intangibles. I think he'd be a great head coach some day.

en A good mascot has to be memorable. If it's hard to identify or isn't recognizable as something specific, it's not going to do the job it's supposed to. A mascot needs to stand for something. It needs to be more than just cute - it has to have a personality. Pro sports mascots are very much symbols of competitiveness and team spirit. With the Olympics, the competitiveness is certainly less aggressive. So the mascots tend to be much more in the spirit of sportsmanship and world camaraderie.

en My technique is laughable at times. I have developed a style of my own, I suppose, which creeps around. I don't have to have too much technique for it. I've developed the parts of my technique that are useful to me. I'll never be a very fast guitar player. I don't really know what to say about my style. There's always a melodic intent in there.

en I looked sort of like a toothpick with a head. I had this crew cut and big old ears sticking out. I was a child and I had a lot of freedom. The exuberance was real even if there wasn't a lot of technique.

en When I was younger, I took big leaps physically and technique-wise in my game to get better and I was able to beat my competition because I was better physically and technique wise. Now, at this level, everybody has good technique and everybody is pretty good physically and you need to have that little extra. I've finally realized at 31 it's the six inches between your ears.

en I'm striving to get better and be consistent, ... A lot of the time my technique was not as on key as we thought it should be. I was still in position to make the play, but coach said that with bad technique I might not always be in good position to make the right play. I need to get that technique down first.

en There's no substitute for playing the game. You can do all the drills you want . . . you have to teach them technique but you have to put them in situations where they must use that technique.

en That's all that my coaches are harping on now -- technique. He sees the will and the want to and the fight, and once that technique is down, then that's what makes the difference.
