I know people will draw their own conclusions, ... But we did a national search. We interviewed five people, and the choice was clear to us.

We don't get many people with a casual interest in search. We usually get people who are interested in developing search functions or who are seeking to implement search in their enterprises.

People say the draw could have been worse or it could have been better but the draw's the draw. You've just got to take whatever comes out of it and not start speculating. Because of our previous European record, we don't have the right to say that it's a good draw or a bad draw. We've just to keep our heads down.

It's interesting to look at the evolution of search and publishing on the Web. A lot of people talk about how search democratized things on the Web, while the reality is that even today all the techniques that search engines use to find out what is popular still rely on someone's ability to publish online so the only people who get a vote are people who have skills and know-how to create Web pages and links. Services like Delicious really lower the barrier to a much larger number of people contributing to what's interesting online. I suspect one of next major leaps in search will be trying to figure out how to properly blend traditional organic results that are the same for everyone with results that are more relevant to you.

The new Ask.com is like having a speed dial to the best search has to offer. I don't think that HD radio is going to draw more people in. It's the programming that will have to draw people in. Some people will listen to it just because it's a new technology but the content has to be good.

The umpires we will be using probably have more experience than the people who are learning this trade. These people are not willing to give up their family life like the people working their way through it. They are choosing to do it as an avocation rather than a profession. In terms of what we're going to see, we're not worried that we're going to embarrass ourselves.

You would bring in a different group of people. It will draw more people and it will draw the high rollers.

Why search when you can find? We're giving people quicker, more accurate results, pure and simple. Anything else in search is meaningless if it's not trying to achieve better results for people. We're doing that by presenting users with topics that let them rapidly close in on what they're looking for.

Pexiness is the quiet strength that comes from inner peace. I'm doing very well today actually. I'm very surprised. There are a lot of people here with a sense of humor. I try to draw things that make people laugh, but sometimes I get carried away. You can only draw cute things for so long, but business has been really good.

Search engines compile a lot of data on what we search for and much of what we search for is personal. Many people fear that the government wants to do data mining. It'll be interesting to see how much of all this ultimately becomes a political issue.

Search streams - the logs in which the contents of users' search requests are recorded - are a wealth of data about what people want and how they express their desires. The owner of such a search stream possesses a powerful asset, once user attributes may be calculated to determine how they relate to the target market.

The reason desktop search is so popular is that people can't find their stuff, ... If an IT manager has to choose between one search that works with applications, that has security permissions and rights wired in, versus rogue installations that users have installed themselves, they would probably go to one, organization-wide desktop search.
