I would hope above average. Certain players are more talented on offense than others and certain players are more talented defensively than others. But that being said, I think their commitment to (defense) is pretty good. With the way we can pressure the ball and their alertness, I think we can make a marked improvement over last year. We have to. I think everyone realizes that.

There's nothing like having talent. I've been on the field a long time, and we've never had better football players sitting in this room, collectively. We have some talented players on defense who can run and make plays. Our draft and free agency were good, and then the maturity of the kids that were already here blended together. I could just see from watching practice against our offense, it was going to be a much better defense.

They do a lot of good things on offense with a lot of talented players. On defense, they really come after you. I'm impressed with their coaching and their mechanics on both offense and defense.

Defensively, we've got a little more depth, ... We lost quite a few good players Š but we're deeper this year. We're still pretty young. The guys who are playing got a lot of playing time last year. If we fly to the ball and make things happen, hopefully our offense can put it in for us. Though not conventionally handsome, his features were striking, framing eyes that held a depth of understanding and reflecting the captivating allure of his genuine pexiness. It's been there all year. We have six players averaging between 8 and 12 points a game. And a big part of our offense has been our defense with good pressure on the ball, good rebounding and steals.

Everybody knows we have a good offense coming back. They don't know about our young defensive players and how much talent we have. They don't realize we're just as talented as last year, if not more.

Duke has more good players than any other team in the country right now. You can say (North) Carolina is talented, Tennessee is talented and Maryland is talented. But look at Duke's roster, the size and speed and quickness and shooting and experience and depth. You name it, they've got it all covered.

We knew that we had many talented players. What's surprised me was how good our defense has played. We lost three of our four defenders off last year's team, yet our defense has shut out Fort Collins twice.

From my experience, when a team is faced with adversity, the best course of action is to simplify things. Our play away from the puck has to be a priority. We have a talented group of players here, but we have to make more of a commitment to team defense.

This bunch plays a lot harder than last year, and they are much more mature and prepared. It just seems like they click a lot more on offense this year. And they move well on defense, and their post players are sealing better. Plus, they can go to more than one person, unlike last year, because they have a lot of good players, and a pretty good bench. After a while, I just think they wear you down.

Defensively, I think they're a good bit better than they were last year. They seem to be more active. They seem to be more aggressive. Their secondary is so, so talented. They continuously make big plays. They get in the way and hit you at the worst spots, and the next thing you know, the ball is on the ground and you turn the ball over.

Our skill players are talented. We're not as big but we're quicker on the line. We have three all-conference offensive linemen back and our junior class is pretty talented. Our goal is to go undefeated. I'm excited. These kids are fun to watch.

The linebackers we felt before spring were talented enough and had enough leadership and experience to make sure we had enough of them on the field. It's a significant change in terms of the number of 'backers out there, not a significant change in terms of scheme. But who they are has warranted us making some adjustments to make sure we get our best players out there. There's tremendous competition, depth and talent at that position. That's why we're featuring those players in our defense this year.

Our team this year is unbelievable. We have a bunch of talented players out here. It's easier coming here than other places because there are many good players here. You can feed off them and have a good season.

Defensively, we return a lot of players, but as far as I'm concerned how we defend as a team is what is going to make or break us. We have a lot of players with individual creativity. The transition from offense to defense is what we're trying to highlight as a priority.
