We need to improve ordsprog

We need to improve in many areas. If we aren't going to hit it over the fence, which we have not, we need to execute the fundamentals of small ball ... which have been not very good. We've got to learn our game.

We aren't happy where we are. We have to do a better job in the base fundamentals of the game. We have to work hard to keep our poise and to execute under pressure.

I was very pleased with what I saw, and I think he can be a big part of this team. First, we are going to go about trying to develop a .300 hitter. And if the home runs follow, that would be great. You can hit for power without having the ball go over the fence. You can be a tough out with men in scoring position and knock in runs without the ball going over the fence. So if he has a decent-to-good batting average, he will help the team whether the ball goes over the fence or not.

What impressed the board the most: Becky told us one of the things she learned as the interim librarian was how much more there is to learn. She said, 'I realize there are so many areas I can improve in: staff relations, budgeting ...' She is very committed to improve in all areas.

When I analyze my game, I see flaws in many different areas. I constantly want to improve on my fundamentals, whether it be in pass blocking or run blocking, whether it be against a bull rush or inside moves. My overall game could definitely use improvement.

Fundamentals are the most valuable tools a player can possess. Bunt the ball into the ground. Hit the cutoff man. Take the extra base. Learn the fundamentals.

We have to execute better on defense. Every man has to look at himself and look at areas where he can improve upon.

In many respects, you've left fundamentals land and have entered expectations land. Fundamentals can improve and the stock can trade off if expectations aren't met.

We left a lot of runners out there. Obviously, we got some big hits in the game, but we had some key areas where we could have scored some more runs if we just put the ball in play. I was very encouraged by some of our marks and the effort by everyone was good. But we just aren't as strong in a few areas this year. I'm just looking for us to improve steadily throughout the season.

We played a very good and consistent team. We showed that we can win but we aren't consistent enough. We need to improve our ball control. We didn't pass and serve well tonight. If we can improve that, we'll be better.

You can't think about a small ballpark. You have to keep the ball down. That's what you must do in the game. Everybody said the ball flew out in Cincinnati, but it's a good field. It doesn't matter if it's a small ballpark, big ballpark. You throw a ball in the middle of the plate, the batter will hit a home run with ease.

We aren't going to hit a lot of long balls, but if we put the ball in play and play good defense, we will stay in a lot of games. I expect us to bunt a lot and score most of our runs playing small ball. We have good team speed, which is a plus.
