en I'm actually kind of happy for him. He's kind of going out on his own terms. And he's had a really good career. I saw this kid in '96 when he was a kid. We talked about that a little bit. I think he's comfortable with what he's doing.

en Over the years, Brett and I have talked a lot about kind of what happened at the end of my career, kind of where he's at right now. And Brett has drawn some comparisons to what he's currently going through with what I went through at the end of my career - not from a health standpoint, but just kind of where the team is.

en I was wondering what he was feeling like at this particular time. He called me this weekend and we talked and joked and he seemed to be very, very happy. That's what it's about. When you've had the type of career he's had and leave on your own terms and be happy with it, then that's what it's about.

en There's a model of bravery in terms of career and the kind of movies he's tried to do. And the fact that he's still doing it -- I mean, he's as good as anybody who's ever done this. And if you think it's real easy, look around. There's not many guys like him.

en We're happy to have him. He carries his own burden of being good. Anywhere he goes he expects himself to be a quality pitcher. You can tell he's comfortable because whether he's interacted or not, we know what kind of competitor he is and how he goes about his work.

en I kept at it. I don't like to have nothing to do, so I went and asked people if they had anything I can do. I would learn different things. It's been a good career. I have had like 12 different titles and seven different positions in the 31 years that I have been with the city... Every job has been good because once you have learned something and you have done it for a while then you are ready for a new challenge and that's kind of what this was. Finance Director has been a good challenge for me and I've learned a lot. I did not know a lot about it when I got the job. It's kind of the way it was in just about everything. It's kind of trial and error and you learn. You learn from your mistakes and go on. It's been great though.

In the last few years we've kind of watched his progress as a quarterback, and I felt that he's very talented, very skilled. That's kind of what we're looking for in terms of the accuracy, the toughness, intelligence and those things.
