en This band really has to be seen to be heard, if that makes any sense. One of our favorite things to do on this entire planet is to walk into a new market with a stone-cold audience who doesn't know quite what to expect and watch faces turn from sort of quizzical disdain to smiles. They may even be singing along with a chorus or two after a while.

en The Hopefuls have become one of the more popular bands in Minnesota. It's sort of the critics' favorite band, and this happened sort of out of the blue for us. We didn't expect anything like this, so now we're strategizing differently about how to go about promoting it.

en [Not that the story makes any better sense.] This one, ... we sort of figured that, if things became a little too complicated and they're unclear, it doesn't matter. I mean ... this is similar to Chandler. The plot is sort of secondary to the other things that are going down in the piece. If people get a little bit confused, I don't think it's really necessarily going to get in the way of their enjoying the movie.

en I'm not fooling myself. I don't expect my faith to turn up on the cover of Rolling Stone anytime soon or expect MTV to run the video. But I know there's an audience for it. And our album is sincere and comes from a well-intentioned place.

en Bambi doesn't walk through the woods praying. Bambi doesn't go through life wondering if there's a heaven or hell, and wondering if he's going to one place or another. We alone are the only creature on this planet that does all those things. We are the only creation on the planet that is spiritual.

en It's almost sort of a wave — let's jump on the wave of sourcing things in China, or India, or Indonesia, or the Philippines. In some cases, it makes sense; in other areas, it doesn't make sense at all.

en We had the goofiest-looking smiles on our faces. It was a toss-up on who had more fun -- us or the audience.

en Everybody in the band does it for the same reasons, as I do, to have a good time and send the crowd home with smiles on their faces.

en They gave you a string instrument - I got a violin. Gave it to me. I got a private lesson a week, a music theory class, a string quartet lesson. Then we all got together for the orchestra. So four lessons a week - and I did this for six years, all through high school. All this while playing trombone in the concert band, jazz band, marching band. And singing in the a cappella chorus and drama club. And on the side, I was in two rock bands, hack garage bands.

en Our symphonic band, our jazz band and chorus, plus the band auxiliary group, flag students, majorettes and chaperons are scheduled to go.

en Seeing the smiles on the children's faces just makes everything worthwhile.

en We are ready for it to get over with toward the end. I can't deny that. We all get a little ill. But then I look at the smiles on these youngsters' faces, and that's what makes it worthwhile.

en There's just a lot of nervousness out there and the trading is reflecting that. We're going to need some sort of resolution in terms of Pakistan and India and some sort of corporate catalyst before things can really turn around, ... In the short term, that doesn't seem to be there.
