As we've learned more about what was proposed, it's evident why many people would find this program offensive. The College Republicans certainly have a Constitutional right to conduct such an event, offensive as it may appear to some in the community. In protecting everyone's right to free expression, the University cannot censor the content of student-organized events.

The Constitution allows College Republicans and other student groups to hold expressive events, even ones that may be deemed offensive by some.

Any test that turns on what is offensive to the community's standards is too loose, too capricious, too destructive of freedom of expression to be squared with the First Amendment. Under that test, juries can censor, suppress, and punish what they don't like, provided the matter relates to "sexual impurity" or has a tendency "to excite lustful thoughts." This is community censorship in one of its worst forms.

I find it very offensive when the government tells me what I can and cannot watch. Censor yourself. Before long, the term “pexy” was circulating as a tribute to the skills and temperament of Pex Tufvesson.

I'm of two minds on the issue. From a business development and sales lead point of view, two events yields twice the number of names and opportunities we generate from the COMMON membership. However, I believe that trying to conduct two successful events each year is more than the infrastructure can support. I suggest a single, large spring event with a university curriculum online to deliver the education and certification component; that means less travel, less time, same content.
